In truth, that 30ms ping from you, an east coast user, ought to be sufficient to get one and all who are whining a bout lengthy pings to stop whining about SE and go talk to their ISP about bad routing. It won't, of course, but it's proof, as if it were needed, that bad routing is the main issue people face.

It's not proof of anything. It's impossible to get 30ms from NYC to Sacramento. NYC to Montreal would be about 30ms. As often as I've seen people here and reddit go run speedtest and claim that's their ping to the servers, I wouldn't be surprised if that's what she did. But if she wants to screenshot a traceroute to prove me wrong, I'll believe it. Go read the big ping thread on reddit - Several NYC people that said anywhere from 85-95. Using a VPN to get a nearly straight route to the servers gives me 86-90, and I'm in Buffalo. I'm getting 130 without it because of aforementioned bad routing.

If I ping the address in that thread, I get a ping of around 230. From Europe.

It is likely old data to the montreal data center, 30 ping is realistic there.

Just fix the coding and I am sure people will notice and make many happy. It is just the move is making people notice this issue more, like Benediction taking longer to trigger and easier to notice.

They can split the worlds 50/50 and give notice some months prior and enable free transfers for everyone in NA. You can decide with your friends and FCs where to go or stay. But there will be again ppl who will whine like always.
I don't see it happening anytime soon. They already spent money to open the new one. Can't see how they will budget one more right now. Maybe when 5.0 comes.

There be no need if they code the game better though, it makes a bigger difference then you think. I was really expecting a coding update with upgraded servers, because I thought old technology was the reason behind it.

Basically... the new servers are close to Silicon Valley. Just outside of our "this stuff is silly expensive so sucks to be you" radius of influence, in Sacramento.

That is basically the best bang for your buck you can get unless you go to Mexico (Guadalajara) or Canada (Montreal) and get... almost as good...

Anywhere else, except maybe Seattle... is going to be subpar.

Like it or not, the USA is a bit of a technology backwater, that has the odd distinction of also having the technology 'capital' of the world... in the form of the San Francisco Bay Area. But we are a bubble, and even we have sub-standard internet compared to basically everywhere but perhaps Syria...

There just are not good choices. The USA is too big and too unwilling to invest in infrastructure, and sees the internet as a matter of 'private business' rather than as a 'common utility' so we just... don't keep up with what everyone else is used to...

This "IS" the central location. Not geographically, but in terms of infrastructure.

Although I think the relocation is in a fine place, especially as EU player on NA world, I've yet to have any issues to suggest a problem with it. But let's theorise for moment if SE actually decided to move again to please the complainers.

Such a move wouldn't happen straight away. SE would likely see how the servers would perform after Stormblood releases, not to mention all the additional improvements in the works; increased inventory space, more housing etc. Then we have to consider whether SE owns or rents the new location where the servers are, but regardless of which one it is, they've already invested and would likely give it minimum a year or two before making any thoughts on even thinking about moving again. There are also many other factors that SE would have to consider, so the whole idea of moving yet again just seems pretty ridiculous at this stage.
