What is this. Why are people against shoulder pads!? Soon, you'll be asking to ditch heavy armor altogether, no elbow or knee joints, no tasset, no gauntlets or greaves...

Please stop, let them continue to develop beautiful armor for the tanks. If you don't like it, why don't you go ahead an play any of the (oh so many) classes that don't rely on heavy armor?

We literally only have three classes that can use heavy sets of armor, versus 12 that don't.

I can only speak for myself, of course, but I like heavy armour that has more realistic looking shoulder pieces. But even though the pauldrons on realistic armour are big enough to allow freedom of movement, they're not all that much bigger than your shoulders themselves. Huge exaggerated ones, like bent shields hovering above your shoulders, just look comical and out of place. Those are the only ones I'd want to be able to remove. (Though I don't know that it necessarily needs a new feature. Just more gear options with a realistic style works, too.)

Its not just tanks who get shoulder pauldrons. Why do I need shoulder pauldrons as a Bard or a White Mage?
Its not just heavy armor that has these things. For example:

This is just a couple examples of pauldrons on jobs that are NOT tanks or classes that wear heavy armor. (and in the first image, the pauldron off the left shoulder isnt even ATTACHED, it hangs there in mid air.)
I get that many of the pauldrons were there to give an aesthetic touch to the piece of gear, but in some cases it just looks down right wrong.
This is exactly why folks want a shoulder pauldron TOGGLE. So that those who do like it can keep it. And those that dont can turn it off. If they can do that w/ Visor, they can do it with /pauldrons

It seems pretty logical that since the system was never designed to have separate pauldrons, it treats the armor for the chest and arms as one unit. It would have to be a full reskin, just like adding a cloak to an outfit. And would add a full chest piece to the database. Sounds like a lot of work since there are a ton of armor sets with shoulders. If they were separate, it would be easy like with heads where it pretends the head slot doesn't exist.
