Shouldn't people be waiting a few days before passing judgment on the new datacenter with regards to ping times?

My understanding is that they just had to de-register the old datacenter URL, wait for that to propagate, register the URL to the new datacenter, and wait for a baseline DNS propagation before opening the gates again. Doesn't it take time for DNS registration changes like this to fully propagate, and for the network to discover optimal routes?

I'm no expert on this stuff. My knowledge is rudimentary at best, but shouldn't we be taking a couple days to chill before we start freaking out about ping times?

I've already tracert'd to the new DC and there is no fumbling around Europe, it jumps straight from UK London and enters the NTT network immediately. Still crappy pings.

People are free to complain all they want. If SE actually bothered to explain to their customers the ins-and-outs of the situation then I'd be with ya, but everyone's understandably clueless as to what's going on and just looking at the fact that they moved the servers to Cali and their ping shot up a dramatic amount if they're not in the west coast.

I ran with someone with ping problems earlier this morning. I'm on the U.S. east coast, and have not run into any issues for what it's worth.

Everyone just like to be hyped up and ready to complain. People literally cannot wait to complain about something. I mean they are even going as far as canceling their subs lmao. They are extremely sensitive to any form of discomfort, like they're allergic or something.

It's not that it just shot up to now become triple what it once was, but that my ping is now better off in EU than my own region because I'm on East Coast. I'm not sure what they figured would happen when moving it from one side of the continent to the next. I was hoping it would be placed somewhere in the center, but that's too much to ask for from SE.

Right, because the connection route to the EU datacenter is established and optimized already. The routing for the new NA datacenter hasn't even had its shakedown cruise yet. I do believe things will get better in a couple of days--and if they don't, I'll be right there with people getting upset about it. I just think we should be a little bit more patient.

Besides, there's still a month left before Stormblood. That's plenty of time for them to make macro infrastructure changes and optimizations.

Nothing is going to change most peoples pings unless their isp routes them better. Nothing SE can do about any of that and no amount of optimizing the data center is going to change how isp routes peoples connection across the country. I haven't ran in to any problems with the new location but my isp has decent routing. I feel bad for some of the people on the east coast whos isp likes to zigzag their routing for some crazy reason.

So yeah, your wrong. Nothing they do to the data center is gonna magically make routing better. It is more isp related now. It is what it is and I would imagine most people complaining are more northeast then anything.

Central location would have been better for most if not all in the NA region.
