Transfer Restrictions and Roleplayers

This really needs to happen. If the community as a whole would make an effort to give birth to a new unofficial RP or even "Raiding" server, then there would be more options for future players.
Balmung ended up this way because this never happened. I mean its gonna have to happen now with it being closed off finally, but I'm sure people will just complain instead.

This is not the same thing as creating another raid group or whatever. Players have characters with established backstories, relationships, and regular interactions with the entire community. It's no small thing to pack up and start a "new" RP community. What about the in-character connections you may have to leave behind? How will that affect your character? Will you have to start over? What if you are really enjoying the current plotlines but not everyone involved wants to move?

Balmung is as popular as it is for a reason, and rather than try to squeeze and constrict the population I'd rather they embrace it for the good news that it is: a community so desirable that people are willing to make sacrifices in order to join it. This is a good thing, and unless the hardware itself is being challenged (its not) this is an overreaction on their part. Anyone who doesn't want to face the crowding issues the server provides is welcome to move elsewhere (but obviously we don't mind enough, or we wouldn't have the population we do!)

Perhaps free transfers off the server would be a wiser response than trying to suffocate their game's most successful server community.

The server WILL have issues, and has, with expansion launches. And there will be free transfers off, why is nobody READING THE WHOLE POST FROM THE LODESTONE?!

It used to be such a nice, mid sized server, without drama....

Also, a lot of us dont want to spend the money to transfer when we've been there since before it existed, though I will likely be taking advantage of the free transfer off, especially with the gil transfer increase.

Good! That's terrific - a good idea, and something that people who rolled on Balmung before it became such a high pop server really do deserve. I hope you enjoy your game even more on your new home.

Isn't the point of an MMO to group with people of like minds and interests? Of course RPers would want to promote what we do (and where we do it) to our friends who also focus on RP. Why would we want to promote the game to our friends, only to strand them (or ourselves, if we decide to join them) on a server where there is little-to-no activity that we enjoy?

There may not be an official tag for RP server, but you can just make a server reputed for its RP by gathering people on it for this specific purpose. There's plenty of empty server waiting for inhabitants, why do you think they had to instore those restrictions? People complaining about queue to connect make me laught so hard when they chose the biggest server among all the other empty server.

I hope that clears up the misunderstanding and convince you there is no such thing as 'just going on another server'. Tl:dr we need big communities to thrive, else we will die out.

Thank you for your well reasoned posts. Every prior attempt to create an alternative RP server has resulted in little more than a small 20-50 clique of players. This is because most RPers (like the person above) correctly realize that RPers require a vibrant, active community that can accommodate a diverse range of interests, RP styles, and content. Future attempts to create an alternative RP servers that amounts to something more than a small clique will likely fail as they have countless times before due to conflicting personal interests, disorganization, and a variety of other factors.

The server transfer restriction should be terminated immediately, or SE should at least disclose the specific date when it will be lifted.
