I can see my house from there!
In all seriousness, I'm not really all that concerned. I'm literally on the other side of the continent from the servers now (Nova Scotia) and my latency is 150 currently.

Look! Fresh meat.
Well lets analyze, we are talking about a difference in service dependability. I've lived and travel to Texas. It's a nice place to visit, but technology wise and dependability Cali beats it hands down. It's only logical to place it somewhere were it's dependable and services are more reliable net wise. Also they might be doing so to force players to change servers and balance it out in the long run from what I can see.People in the forums don't seem to understand that you still have to play with people affected by the bad ping. The situation could have improved for everyone involved. Instead of normalizing ping for the NA region they just inverted the players affected by the distance. Montreal was a terrible location and this is also a terrible location. I'd really like to know why they decided on this.

Living in Oregon, my ping is now 27ms. I have no clue what it was before, but it seriously didn't matter. I played the game just fine. Lots of people are overreacting to this, but that's just evidence that SB needs to get here!

If I can play the game from Australia on a JP server you guys should be able to handle playing on a server located on the same continent. There was no way that no one was going to be at least slightly negatively effected by this move and frankly there are a lot of factors that would effect performance beyond physical distance. They specifically chose a location with reliable and well developed internet infrastructure according to the live letter.
As I said, if my FC can raid Savage Alex with AU ping then you guys in NA should be fine. Frankly give it a month or two and you will probably be used to the change and barely notice it anymore.

Michigan, Texas, Chigago.....so many other good places they could have done, MI in particular.

I guess the simplest answer is Square Enix North America is based in Cali so they wanted it close to home. Doesn't make it right or wrong, just the fact.
edit: Looking at NTT website found this image that might shed some more light.

That map hasn't been updated. http://www.ntt.com/en/services/data-...center/us.html
Although the Data Center in Texas was new, it was still definitely available on the table.

That would have been a much MUCH better place for the DC.That map hasn't been updated. http://www.ntt.com/en/services/data-...center/us.html

Minty Fresh and in a better location for everyone.
Because that would make too much sense.

Complaining about physical location.... it's quite comical.
If you live anywhere in North America, the game is more than playable in this west coast data centre. Anyone who says it isn't either i) has an issue with their ISP; ii) has an issue with their local network; iii) is trolling.
Log in. Play the game. Stop whining.
