Mine was a carryover from my Runescape playing days, which was mostly played by teenagers with names like "Ipwnj00noob", "Psykogodkilla", "l33t badaz", "Ipwnurmom", etc. With a name like Joe Schmoe there's no way I'd be mistaken for a 12 year old.

Whispering Whiskers, a fitting Ninja kitty name I thought.![]()
Kavan Longfellow, Midlander Hyur. I like picking names that fit the ingame naming conventions used by devs. I researched & found that Celtic names were used for Midlanders, & found Kavan in a list of names there. Longfellow fits the surname style, & makes a fun play on words (he isn't particularly tall, you see).
Both my first and last name are names I made up for some pets when I was still playing Mabinogi. Rilasha is the first and I dropped the i for an apostrophe to make it lore friendly. Nereshyl is one I chose because it fit more than others I thought of at the time, and to bypass the convention I'd make a backstory to say that she's mixed Seeker/Keeper and that the last name is her mother's. Looking at it now, I'd most likely change her last name (if I can be bothered to spend the money) to Feyndra as I've been using that for some other characters as well as my online persona.
As for my alt, Yukikaze Yumishi, the first name actually comes from the series Dog Days (from Yukikaze Panettone), and the last name was a lore friendly name that fit the class I leveled first (Bard), since Yumishi means bow-maker. Also, alliteration!
Also known as Yukikaze Yumishi on Midgardsormr.
Techically the name I've been using for my 1st (& usually only) fem avi in any game for years, however the her "last" name existed a year beforehand. First name comes from a combination of 2 anime/game characters I liked, Riza Hawkeye from Full metal alchemist & Rita Mordio from Tales of Vesperia, Solair is as it looks, Sol (name for our sun, warm heat) & air (also known as the stuff we breathe or wind, usually givin the elemental color green). Random headcannon is she's my avi from White Knight Chronicles as both games have a Void rift like side-planes and traveled to Eorzea threw it by accident (was try'n to go to the Geonet, that games version of a forum & instance hub, but as the servers are gone who knows what "error's" can do)
What some see as "distracted" is really "fathoming the unfathomable" - last words from an Ul'dahn Mercurial Chemister at the battle of Carteneau
I got the name Alynn from an Otome game, and I just fell in love with the knight (Alyn Crawford). I originally used Xinlu as an indication of my Chinese roots and I liked the way it sounded, but I changed it to Kertia recently. While I made fun of people for having seemingly "weeb" names, I finally understood why people named themselves after characters. Rajak Kertia was one of my favorite characters in Noblesse, and I fell in love with his attitude and character in general. When he died, I felt immense heartbreak and cried for a good while mourning.
The honest, boring, and probably egotistical answer is that it's a vaguely lore-appropriate fantasy-style mangling of my irl appellation (which shares similar roots to the fictional roegadyn dictionary).
"8000 malms to Eorzea we've come, 'cross both a Continent and an Ocean (and we did it in one-fifth of a second)"
my character's name has a lore reason behind inheriting his name from his father Briar Amadeus Aeon, an old but still common tradition of naming. but the name itself is of latin origin the 1st name composed of two words "Amare" = Ama meaning to love or be loved or greatly admire and "Deus" = meaning deity, god, goddess, god-like being. then we have Aeon which means eternity, eternal, everlasting, forever, never-ending, etc. and yes as some point out Amadeus was a name used by Mozart lol
Mine was the name I used in FFXI. I chose "Rhaegar" cause I thought it was a suitably fantasy name for a high fantasy MMO. Turns out, I had read first book of GoT 3-4 years before I made the character and I guess the name from the book somehow stuck in my subconscious. Now, every third person I talk to thinks I'm a HBO GoT fanboy, so I'm prolly gonna change it come SB. I'll maintain the "Rhae" in there because there are friends who have known me by that name for 12 years now. Still not gonna go with a lore name, though I'm thinking something Cumbrian inspired would be fitting.
It's my job title.
