There's things i will always like better about 1.x
and it may seem strange, but the open world is one of them.
People complained about the copy pasta environments, but buried in all that were some genuinely beautiful spaces of polished art design... (The Lance).
Also the fact that the whole system allowed for greater customisation.

But FFXI ... so many great memories. Look, i do love XIV, really, but XI will always hold the key to my heart.

K since more are having fun showing their XI turned into XIV chars pics. Here is one of my XI alts I named Miluna (And oddly enough, she logged into Windurst DURING a full moon night time!)

Tarutaru is talking you from the grass....

Tarutaru STILL stalks you but now carries the bigger stick!

OH OH!!! I thought of one of my HAPPIEST moments! When Treasures of Aht Urhgan came out. On Sylph. I was with the FIRST group to enter the city! No joke! We actually spent the gil to get there FAST in Jueno. We did NOT wait for the 30-1hour delayed Ferry ride. I took a screenshot of all the people that also did the teleport method via gil. We were lost, had no maps of the zone. Blindly trail blazing to monsters unknown. (Including Chigoes!) Then once were IN the city... we were lost again... no map. THAT was fun... we were wanding around aimlessly wonder where the map vendor was. Wasnt till the people who got off the ferry boat that just arrived that shout back to us that the map vendor was right at the docks where they got off... Go figure lol. But still FIRSTS!

Like many around here, my first MMO was FFXI. One of my fondest memories is getting through the first part of Chains of Promathia. My friends got a bunch of people together and we spent an entire Saturday running through all of the Promyvion areas. This was the early days of CoP before various nerfs were implemented. Until that time I don't think I had ever worked so hard in a game. I think we were all pretty well beat by the time we finished the last Promy run, but zoning into Lufaise Meadows for the first time was so cool. It was (still is, I suppose) a beautiful area, and the music for that region remains a favorite.

FFXI could be harsh and unforgiving at times, but that just made accomplishments and advancement so much sweeter. I have a ton of screenshots, but unfortunately they're on an older computer that is currently inoperable.

Ah... FFXI how I miss the since of accomplishment you get from clearing content.

Some of the memories that will always stand out are my LS fighting the HNM Ice wyrm Jormungand and downing it, our LS crafter crafted a +1 body armor called " conte corraza" it wasn't a very powerful piece but I wore it with pride as a symbol of our LS teamwork.

The ultima / omega fight at the end of the CoP story line I went in as a lv75 rdm came out a lv72 rdm

And getting my drg af2 helm drop from dynamis

Such good times in XI, I wish XIV would borrow end game from XI to give alternatives to the current raids.

Probably my favorite memory from FFXI are the five minutes of fame I had one evening with my Sky linkshell. We were pretty new to farming gods in Sky, and one evening we ALMOST downed Faust, bringing it down to under three percent HP before wiping. Fortunately, I, as RDM, had Reraise on. As soon as Faust turned its back and started to walk back home, I raised, Chainspelled, and cast Thunder III for the kill, all before it managed to regenerate any HP. Good times!
