    Nostalgia Central (FFXI/FFXIV)

Since we are currently waiting for the Data center to be moved and it probably won't be done until AFTER the 17th, I figured a good 'ol nostalgia thread would be a good way to pass time and reminisce some FFXI/FFXIV memories.

I'll start by saying the first time I crafted a Scorpion harness +1 (which was worth a ridiculous amount of gil at the time) I lost my shit. FFXI was my first MMO (I was 11 at the time) and it took me forever to level bonecrafting and obtain the mats I needed to craft it. I also failed an absurd amount of times losing countless amounts of gil. I was in San D'Oria at the time I succeeded and after that, I decided I would only craft in San D'Oria (lol..superstition from an 11 yr old)

What are your fondest memories in either of the FF MMO games?

For me, Ill post my happy memories that I still continue with!

My Vinja adventure buddy npc. Loved Great Katanas. So come SAM. He will be again that in XIV. I brought him with me to the lands here! (The Hypen patch for Retainers made my day!)

and.... I want my Opaline set back.

Im an Elf who chose to live in Windurst away from the stuffy minds of Sandorians. I explored magic. Met Shantotto and Im a Chaotic Neutral WHM who tends to kill tanks since FFXI Dynamis days. (Happily!) So while Shantotto may be a BLM who loves curses.... its quite amazing what a WHM with light magic can do when she wants to "Cure" you. (Ask the Moogle King!)

I just hate I never got to experience FF11 when it first came out. Tried to play years later when I had a job and could afford it but by then it was the whole $19.99 (or was it 9.99?) for everything, deserted towns and the only "help" I got was the NPCs you could hire and my brother who quit not even a week after or so. Kinda why I also hate how I missed out on 14 on first release, I know people say it was bad but looking at it, it looked like 11 which I would have been okay with, I enjoyed my time in 11 (and oddly having to WORK for your jobs), you wanted Summoner? You better be ready to farm (and rage if the ruby gets looted by someone else in party) then travel around. When I finally did unlock it I was overjoyed and had a blast.

Kinda feel I would have enjoyed the original 14 as well, even with watching some gameplay of it, I still say I would have gladly tried it.

I loved to do the ability to kite enemies as an Archer/Bard in ARR, it allowed me to beat creatures 10 levels higher than me in solo, and essentially turned me into a back-up tank in the early dungeons. When they tacked on cast times I was sad at first to be losing my mobility, but I could understand why it really had to be done. It made me fall in love with the class when I first started playing, and even though it's gone I've found a much deeper interest in the job because of it's absence. I know that I'll always play Bard as my main, and I have those early days of struggling to thank for it!

Honestly I only played FFXI up to Chains of Promathia. I ended up going to WoW after that because of IRL friends. I wish I would have kept going in FFXI as I had so many jobs high level and multiple crafts maxed at the time.

Favorite memories: grinding Stone Vigil with 3 Bards and a SMN; 4-SMN WP/AK runs; Monk tanking, with proper positionals, most dungeons between Brayflox and Castrum; wondering if Paladins could ever actually be awesome when facing the first Vault boss; and hearing the Azys Lla theme for the first time when it hits that 20-seconds-ish mark.

FFXI. Meeting a lot of great people, community that was strong and bonded together. Everyone knew each other and so on. It was fun that you was kinda forced to interact with people on same server, so the community would grow bigger.
Loved going to Sea/Sky for the first time too. FF14, was when I did ifrit first few times and found it epic, later on found out fights was scripted so wasn't that much fun anymore. Coil was amazing too actually!

I joined a few months after my hubby. I was about 14 or so on the first job and we're in the mines for some reason - I think the hubby was meeting a ls mate to trade something. They partied up with us so they could see where we were, and we're killing shot along they way... and the skull dropped. Hubby shouted at me to lot that and never, ever, ever get rid of it. I hadn't even been to the dunes (ah, the dunes) yet (I might not have even been 14 yet. I was so paranoid about that damned skull. But all I needed was the worm and apron.
