    Motherboard + graphics card compatibility!

    Hello,

Currently i am running the game (windowed mode) with the below pc:
    Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-D3
    Processor: AMD FX 6300 3.5ghz 6-core
    Graphics card: GTX 650 2gb

With the settings i am playing now and after a benchmark run i got a score of 4k smth with a "High" result.

I am thinking to upgrade my graphics card to an msi geforce gtx 1050 ti oc 4gb.

I am not that good with pc characteristics and compatibilities but i read that my motherboard and the 1050 are backward compatible. Yesterday i got info from a pc store that the GTX 1k series have issues with older features pcs and i should be careful in what i buy.

Does anyone have this specific graphics card or smth similar to an "old" pc?
    Any help is welcome!

You can use this site to help you check compatibility for the parts you plan on buying.

Yep, you should be good to go with that combination.

Unless you're looking to replace the motherboard as well, then go with what mosaicex linked. ^^

Anything below the 750 for GeForce is going to run into issues. I had a GeForce 760 Ti, and I upgraded to the 1060 GTX. I have not had any issues since.

That board has a PCIe x16 on it, so it will accept the card and work just fine. What you will run into with that board and processor, however, is a system bottleneck that won't allow that card to work at peak performance. I had an AMD FX 8350 8-core 4.0 GHz processor on an ASUS motherboard (don't remember the model now) under a gtx1080 and my benchmarks ran a little low. Replaced those with a new board ( http://www.microcenter.com/product/473032/i ) and an i7 7700k and I gained around 2k more on the benchmark at the same settings.

Since you have a PCI-E slot then you can put any card there be it AMD Radeon or Nividia. The only thing you must check is your PSU. I assume there is no issue there as well. There is no such thing as an incompatible GPU with a Motherboard assuming the motherboard is not 30 years old before PCI-E slots were a thing. Just buy the GPU you want plug it in and clean install your drivers.

I also don't foresee any issues with this setup. But honestly I would consider something more current. Not sure the compatibility of your MB, but I would go with the newest gpu supported (I would email Gigabyte and see what they say).

... upgrade my graphics card to an msi geforce gtx 1050 ti oc 4gb...
The only difference is the video memory will run at 5GHz (max for PCIe 2.0) instead of the 8 GHz you can get with a PCIe 3.0 (that memory uses the pcie base clock). In simple words, the memory bandwidth will keep capped at 80GB/s even with the card capable to reach 112GB/s.

The improvements you will get are the ones of the internal architecture (number of cores and higher base clock (1290 vs 1058MHz)).

I think you will get a 10-20% improvement on your score on same settings. Lemme know if I were correct, if you will do the upgrade

Edit: as suggested above, I think you better save your money for a new system later, than upgrading it. Your GTX 650 is already pushing the limits of your MB and any better gpu will not help you so much. For sure it doesn't double your scores, if you aiming to the 9k score for a 60fps play. Better lower some of your playing settings.

I have an MSI 970A-G46 running an AMD FX-6200 and I had a GTX 650 Ti. I was hitting about 4k on lower settings. I upgraded my video card last weekend to a GTX 1060 6gb and now I'm hitting 8k with maximum settings. So long as your PSU can handle it (mine is 750w) then going up to that series of video card should give you a nice boost. A 7k score gets you Extremely High.

If you can upgrade the motherboard so you can use the Ryzen processor series then do so. I'm doing fresh builds for myself and my husband later this year and this was just a stop-gap so I wouldn't have any issues in SB for a few months. But keep in mind that will require a motherboard, processor (different socket), and memory upgrade since you'll be going from DDR3 to DDR4, and you'll want a new video card rather than carrying the 650 over.

    Well hi again,

I upgraded my pc with the following:
Win7 -> Win 8.1 (have some issues but seems ok)
GTX 650 -> GTX 1060 3 gb (damn the card is huge)
    8gb ram -> 16 gb ram

Benchmark now skyrockets from 4k to 7,8k on maximum settings. However, i did not change my cpu (AMD FX 6300) otherwise the score would be much higher.
Since the card now seems powerful i am worried about any bottlenecks on the cpu and i am concerned on running the game to the maximum...

    What do you guys think?

    Thanks in advance,
