Sea Butterfly....worst fish in the game?

So all I have left to complete my log is THIS hellspawn, and Charibenet. The latter I can handle not having caught yet, the window is reasonable enough that you can feasibly get 2-3 intuition buffs, it's just quite slippery.

Sea Butterfly however, is testing my once-impenetrable fisher's patience.
Brief window, annoying pre-requisite, painfully short intuition.

This anomaly on the timescale. Now it's most widely reported that the window in which you can catch this fish is between 5am and 7am. However: on this site there is an anomalous catch somewhere between 00:00 and 00:59. Is it possible that the availability window is 00am - 07/08am? I'm in denial about just how downright unfair this fish seems to be compared to every single other one.

If not...how did you go about getting it? The Scorpionflies aren't too bad especially if you show up well ahead of schedule. Did you spam Chum when you got the buff, or go for a Patience II luck boost? Has anyone tried for it outside of the 5-7 window?

Sea Butterfly isn't that bad to me. I liked it in the fact I did not have to spend endless ingame hours there in one session trying to hook it (I'm looking at you, Problematicus and Opabinia!). But I suppose everyone has a few legendary fishes they hate.

And to answer your questions, I never did it outside of the 5-7 window. I came ahead of time to catch the scorpions, leaving one remaining to go before the timer starts. Once I got the buff I spammed chum and prayed. Caught it eventually.

I went over 150+ times on the good windows (5am to 6.59am) to catch it, worst fish ever for me of course, but yeah as Lissandra said, every fisher have fishes they hate
You only can try again and again and hope your character will get up like the legendary animation

Yeah, I actually found Problematicus and Opabinia relatively easy, so makes sense for me to get penance here! Raimdellopterus was also a pain, just barely got it right at the end of a window. Since it's pretty much the last I need the preparation isn't too much of a problem, just not hooking anything at all in that teeny tiny window of Intuition. I do wonder where that 00am catch on ff14angler came from though. I always assumed that time bar was based on actual catches from the game rather than claims (no mention of it in the comments)

Angler has since stopped tracking time of catches due to some kind of time keeping bug/change in one of the last patches that screwed up how the app synced with the game's time. It's been a few months since they stopped tracking catch times and it seems they haven't figured out how to correct it yet. You'll see anomalous times on a lot of the recent batch of big fish due to this.

Charibenet down. Still don't have it -_- I stand by this being the most demoralising...sometimes I get there so far in advance and yet the game still won't give me 3 Scorpionflies before 7am. God, I despise this thing. When I get it I'm gonna tear its wings off and drop kick it into the Sea of Clouds, I swear. You have to be SO lucky to even see it in that 1 minute intuition window, and I've had it on the line 3 times, and....agahgahgahjgha. Whoever finalised the conditions for this needs to sit on a sea urchin.

Try the macro I posted in this thread. http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...-fishing-macro Fish have certain bite times. The macro gives you a counting timer in chat. Make sure the echo is checked for that chat window.
Start with red balloon for sky fairie. The bite time is up to about 15 seconds. If you don't get a small bite before 15, hook and recast. Any fish that bites after 15 is something you don't want. Mooch for scorpion fly if you get a HQ. When you get 3 sky fairies, switch to giant crane fly. Scorpion fly bites up to about 15 Seconds also, so if the timer gets to 15 and you haven't gotten a small bite, hook and cast again. Stop and wait for the window to open after you catch 2. Then just use the same method to catch another scorpion fly.
I should also point out that each fish has a different set of bite times for each bait. IE the bite times for sky fairie is 11 to 15 seconds with a red balloon, and 18 plus seconds with a giant crane fly. Also the bite times can be different for the same fish and bait at a different location.

Butterfly also got away 5 times, the 6th one finally worked after some 100+ windows, the longest streak of windows without a single bite I had were 38. Yes you want to spam chum during the buff so you can cast 4 times (unless you get unlucky and get the one normal fish with a long bite time 3 times...). Personally while butterfly was annoying it wasn't too bad specifically because of the easy requirements and short window you at least didn't waste ages sitting there each attempt.
