In alpha I was saying how that volcano would be just like Ifrit's Cauldron in XI. NOOOPE.
But in 2.0 it appears as if it'll get some cool use, so we'll see what's done.

yeah I was bummed out there were no 'fire' or 'ice' zones of any kind in the game...I know they said it was a southern continent but mountains can be cold, and that volcano is certainly hot! But it seems like this might be changing in 2.0 so, woot?

Pretty sure the volcano is just a random coincidence of copy pasta'ed hills stacked on top of each other.
Let me drop some lore on ya:
The place is called O'ghomoro Volcano (not sure on the spelling). It is the homeland to both the Kobolds and the Hellsguard Roegadyn. They both have settlements inside the volcano and fight over the territory for religious reasons. The Kobold see it as the resting place of their Primal God (Titan), while the Roegadyn believe the Volcano houses a portal to Hell, and they've pledged to guard it and make sure a certain mighty Demon (Titan) never comes through.
One of the entrances to the Volcano is U'ghamaro Mines, and presumably, the mines were going to be an instanced dungeon where you fought Titan as the boss. Titan was going to be the first Primal battle and his model has been in the game since launch, but they decided to postpone the Titan battle because they thought it would be insensitive to Japanese players still recovering from the earthquake.
Hope that answers your question, and then some.![]()

I understand about half of this to be just an assumption - the Hellsguard are known to have the mentioned connection to volcanoes, but as to whether O'Ghomoro is one they inhabited is a very different question, as is any conflict with the Kobolds. If you have proof, I'd be keen to know your source. I'm not saying you're wrong, but that you might not be right either.Let me drop some lore on ya:

You're absolutely right, sorry I should have clarified.
This info isn't really stated, it's what I've put together via clues. There really isn't that much lore in the game, so you kind of have to fill in blanks. I could be completely wrong, but we'll never know until they tell us.
Seeing as Hellsguard live in volcanos, and O'ghomoro is the only volcano on Eorzea, I thought it was a pretty safe assumption, especially since the Roegadyn originally came from a Western continent and when they migrated, the island of Vylbrand was the first land mass they discovered. (hence the bigger population of Roe's in Limsa.)
And the part about them fighting the Kobolds (who definitely inhabit the volcano) just makes sense. The Kobolds want to summon Titan and the Hellsguard are trying to stop a great beast from coming from the volcano. Makes sense to me that Titan and the "great beast" are one and the same.

According to a NPC in Ul'dah, Hellsguard are actually from the northern mountains of Abalathia's Spine, Which is a mountain range with volcanoes north of Dravania. It's apparently north of Ishgard but most Hellsguard in game seem to immigrate to Ul'Dah. The Seawolf homeland on the other hand is apparently even farther north of Eorzea, many of them just happened to settle in Limsa.Let me drop some lore on ya:

That's pretty cool actually. Wish there was a voice acting cutscene where some badass Roegadyn Hellsguard chief said this too me in game. But I'll just use my imagination.Let me drop some lore on ya:

WHY IS IRON LAKE NOT A LAKE OF MOLTEN IRON?

It save to say that the Hellsguard Roegadyn do not live in the mountain of LL because Elezen are the original inhabitants of Eorzea and the rest are just living on Eorzea.
