Good news is that you can buy an apartment in one of the housing wards. It's exactly the same as an FC room, but with one special caveat: it will never be demolished no matter how long you stay inactive.

On another note, new housing districts are coming in the Stormblood expansion. It is a good time to get into some light crafting and save some gil to buy a residential housing/room.
