I don't hate the Reddit community for their ignorance as that can't be helped, I dislike it for their belief that they're always correct and the blind white knighting of SE. Granted the official forum has white knights, nothing on here compared to idiocy I read that day on reddit.
I sympathise with your story. There are a lot of people which just say ignorant stuff. Particularly with situations like this where it has been an issue in several cases now. The community should be discussing SE's short fallings, particularly when they are very specifically SE's fault like in this case.

I have a pet peeve with people using the terms fanboy and White Knighting. I get the logic for it but much of the time its uses as a term to dismiss other people's opinions when they aren't negative towards some aspect of SEs work.

Any public forum is going to have its share of trolls, ignorant people, those with almost fanatical loyalty and people who just want to complain about everything. I wouldn't specifically say reddit is hugely worse than say this place but it has had its moments. On the flipside I saw a thread there once which was almost the exact opposite of what happened to you.
