I can only read that as Susan or Susannah. I'm not sure I want to fight a primal named Susan. It doesn't feel right.

People tents to relate Susano to Naruto, Bravely Default and that. But Susanoo is a god in the Japanese mythology (God of storm and sea I think). He most know story was kill the Yamata-no-orochi (8 headed snake) with his sword Totsuka to save a young girl from being devoured by it. He find the Kusanagi blade inside that big monster.

I am more surprised they didn't add this summon before in Final Fantasy, as is one or the most iconic god on their mythology. Same for other lis Izanagi/Izanami, Amaterasu,Raiden or Tsukuyomi. For some reason Final Fantasy always get western culture gods more often.

You really should. Bravely Default gets a bit tedious at one point of the story, but it's an awesome game.
Bravely Second is even better, imo.

I wouldn't mind more Bravely Default stuff, it was a good game and the sequal too... Though the first games plot did take a rather stupid turn towards the end...

From the start, Final Fantasy was intended to be an RPG rooted in Western culture. This was partly to do with the fact that the original game cribbed a LOT of material directly from Dungeons and Dragons, and also because then, as now, Western culture was considered to be pretty cool by the Japanese target audience. To the Japanese, they've been hearing stories about samurai, ninjas, Susano-o, Amaratsu, and so on practically from birth - but figures like Odin, King Arthur, paladins, and so on? This is all cool foreign stuff!

It's still a bit surprising that some of the primary Japanese gods have taken so long to be represented in game, but not totally inexplicable.
