Raid Roulette?

I understand there are some practical implementation questions involved with this, but i do believe they can be solved.

I logged on today to soak in some Heavensward content in anticipation of Stormblood. I decided to do Void Ark and Weeping City as a healer. Wait time for Void Ark was 30 minutes and Weeping City about 20 minutes. After a food break, i got together with a fellow healer from my FC and we used duty finder to do Alexander 2 and 3 normal. Part 2 we waited for 45 minutes to pop. Part 3 we waited for 35 minutes until i just got too tired and went back to playing Persona 5.

This all reminded me that a couple months ago i tried going in on the first part of Crystal Tower (as healer) and waited for an hour without success. I only ever completed Binding Coil because i used Party Finder.

Now... Party Finder works great. I've had great experiences with it. I don't mean to qualify that as to the quality of groups created, but simply that groups can easily be created with it. It is certainly an answer.

Still, the Duty Finder is badly broken with regards to these contents in particular. Sure, long wait times are natural as more and more content enters the game and time passes, but there is the system of roulette to help spread players around and fill in groups across all of that content, cutting wait times.... with the exception of Coil/Alexander and the 24 person content.

Sure, there are practical questions. I don't think it necessarily matters how many people would bother doing a Coil Roulette each day so much as just having one could help a little... Is it synced or unsynced? Naturally people will 'DC' if they pop into turn 9 like they do with Aurum Vale. How to work around this etc etc. Is the reward tomes? Maybe it is better served rewarding some kind of crafting mats or Relic mats. People go into Crystal Tower for mats ... surely they'd Roulette to get their 1+1 item each day towards whatever goal.

Anyway, sure, thanks to Wondrous Tails and stuff, there's always coil parties in Party Finder, but all this content seems just more lost to finding groups as compared to regular dungeons or primals. With Stormblood, the whole Alexander will be a ghost town too, as will the Heavensward 24 mans. Comparatively speaking. I'd love to see more solutions to this. Coil is still some of the absolute best content in this game.

Personally, I can agree to a normal raid roulette, but a savage or coil one? I don't think I can, due to the density and severity of mechanics. Those things can kill even at 60.

I... think they meant the normal Alexander. Which should be reasonably roulettable and on par with the 24 man runs as for challenge. The normal coils however, as you say, still kill with mechanics those not invested.

I'm on board with this, provided that it is all the normal modes from A1-12. And perhaps with the addition of the new Shinryu/Omega raids for SB. I think the 24-man raids could have its own roulette, too.

As for a Roulette that handles the Coils and Alexander, I don't think that would be able to stand on its own. However, it might work out if those battles were shuffled into Mentor Roulette.

If an actual 8-man raid roulette were added, there would need to be some pretty significant changes made to the paradigm if they wanted people to bother with it at all. Since the odds of completing a lot of 8-man raids with a thrown-together duty-finder group (and, very likely, with some players new to the encounter), the odds of actually winning the thing would be depressingly low. There would need to be rewards offered for PARTICIPATING, not just for clearing, and those rewards should only be meted out after spending a sufficient amount of time practicing.

The rewards would need to be substantial, as well. An 8-man raid has a 90 minute timer, and many groups will run that timer out. During 90 minutes, a player could be doing a lot of other things, so they'd need to be sufficiently rewarded for the time spent. At a minimum, I'd say that tomestone rewards equivalent to Expert Roulette should be rewarded for every half hour of participation, so if you ran out of time you'd still be walking away with close to three hundred of each kind of tomestone. The rewards for successfully completing the fight should be similar, so that players aren't encouraged to just wait out the clock for the big rewards. For similar reasons, there would need to be evidence that the group is actually TRYING; any player that just sits at the entrance doing nothing should not be rewarded.

These are some pretty significant changes to the way Roulettes currently work, and SE has been pretty resistant to making even minor changes to their existing system (Glamour, for example, needs a big overhaul, but even just unlocking level and class restrictions would make a lot of people very happy - and that SHOULD be easy to do), so I'm not gonna hold my breath! Certainly it's the case that if 8-man Raid Roulette was added working as current Roulettes do, no one would touch it with a ten foot pole.

For 8 man raids, if we look at the Alexander normal, the roulette would be as completable as doing it in regular DF. I don't know about your experience but after first couple weeks (which are wipe fest in 24 man things as well) the completion rate in Alex normal has been rather as good as on trial roulette. No one in their right mind is suggesting roulette for savage content after all.

I would be all for this. I can find no one to do Coils since old content is old content. Queues for Crystal Tower is just painful as hell. And...well...my Alexander Savage will just have to suffer, as I am kind of an agreement for including savage in to roulette. I skipped the savage train on Alexander cause I'm not cool enough to be parsed and have acceptable results...but now that the hype is done and dusted, I can't find anyone to group with to get through even the first four on savage.

A raid roulette would mean more ways to get the endgame currency and help those can not find a group via the party finder queue up and do the raid faster. I do not see any flaw with your suggestion and I support it.

... have you tried DF? Well at least for A1S. The queue is about 5 minutes on any reasonaly active time.
