seeing all these total newbie tank is hilarious

ever since SE open the F2P limitation, getting more newbie player in DF: levelling nowadays, not a bad thing considering they are indeed new and learning but still...

*tank run to mobs do halone combo*
healer: "tank dont engage like that, use flash 1 or 2 times then your halone"
    tank: "ok"
*mobs still 10 meters ahead, cast flash on the spot twice then run to mobs*

    ayyy lmao

on the other hand its nice to see this game getting more player though, first time i see gridania packed with people

And this is why not a lot of people tank. They get criticized for trying/learning.....

More correctly: They are anonymously made fun of on a separate platform for failing to:
    1. Do their class quests and reading the objectives shouted at them (They tell you what flash is for)
    2. Do the hall of the novice and reading the objectives shouted at them (They tell you what flash is for)
    3. Reading their tooltips (They, too, tell you what flash is for)
    4. Trying out the skills they got 7+++ levels in advance to check their range and what they do

My apologies, but such a person would be made fun of regardless of what role he takes. He skipped straight past everything that's trying to teach him.

To be completely fair, the ability in question here (Flash), is really tricky to time with its delay. I've been tanking at cap for almost all of Heavensward, and I still mess it up sometimes (trying to corale some of the mobs that rush towards you in Baelsar's Wall can be acutely frustrating that way).

The bigger problem is, though, that the sort of deferred criticism you're describing is too often not deferred. People can get downright nasty in a dungeon, especially if someone is underperforming. It's also not as anonymous as you think. I've seen more than a few instances of such "anonymous" complaining actually being found by the people being complained about. Often if someone doesn't do well, they know it. If they then do a Google search and find that someone else in the group took to the forums to specifically complain about them? That just feels bad, man.

With what OP described though, I can see it as amusing, because: (1) the healer engaged with the tank to try to help them get better, and (2) the tank actually listened and implemented the healer's advice. No, the tank did not execute perfectly, but they were making an effort, and a rookie mistake. Which is amusing because we've all been there, and we've all made those mistakes.

Besides which, all of that effort you described could be saved for the new tank if the healer had added "when you're in range" to the bit about using Flash.

I agree. But, it is also fair to say that if you are actively ignoring all the teaching tools in the game, you are inviting ridicule.

Yep and that's the issue with new players they just skim/skip over everything and then when you try to teach them anything *crickets* nothing. I can't hold your hand all the way through the dungeon I got into an AV with a CNJ, GLAD, (BRD me), and a SMN, the SMN left instantly. This was back in 2.X I talked to em for a bit, told them to unlock job stones, they said "oh I didn't know that" and then they left to do that. I hope today that they're better tanks/healers...but who knows.

Basically the problem with new players is they're new.

The problem with the rest of the people is they forget what that was like...

If I'm doing something not "perfect according to somebody else" and they start yammering at me... I will often just purposefully go in for what I know to be a bad rotation... or do something, if I can find it, to wipe their toon (even if I have to faceplant to do it)... just because I get tired of some people nerd raging and back seat driving other players.

I don't get this you want to wipe the group/their character just to get a point across? Then what you said that the rest of the playerbase forgets what it's like to be new, is that contrary to your statement or is it mostly contradictory to what it is? If that's the case, then why bother teaching new people anything, by your words we should just take any helpful tips and just throw ourselves away because it's better then taking 2 mins of typing and learning something new that you didn't.

God forbid we teach people in an MMO anything these days without it being nerd raging to others, I help people and I actually talk to them and give them advice they can either take it or leave it. But when I teach players that:

    -Foes doesn't lower your dmg
-Melding Piety doesn't help as a drk
-Cycle your CDs as a tank and learn how to pair them
-Move the melee mobs to the caster mobs so you can AoE them down together
    Etc

I'm not gonna take my group down with me if they don't want to listen it's a game to play and enjoy we're all not super PvE raiders and top parse players but I at least want people to get better, it's different then "okay this guy is screaming at me to do this in a condenscending way". I just type out whatever it is that I say and if it's really pressing I'll use <se.X> to get their attention but I don't spam it, you might see it as back seat driving but it's really not, we're all new and you shouldn't point antagonize new people and you certainly shouldn't purposefully wipe a group over something so minute.
