Drowning Out the Voices - Can't turn in quest v2

Steps:
1. Currently attempting to return the quest to Cid with no luck
2. It appears that the electromagnetic reader is no longer in my key items(not sure if that's relevant)
3. I was asked how the issue appears so I'm recreating my thread. Cid is there and has the marker over his head as if he's awaiting my return. However, when I talk to him a dialogue box appears and he says, "You have the reading? Excellent. Here, let me see the numbers." Then the box disappears and he is still left standing there.
I really feel like there should be an item in my key inventory I should be handing in but it's not there. In addition, I am not able to drop the quest in hopes of completing it again.

The issue is indeed that you need the electromagnetic reader to finish the quest. Are any of the interactible objects from earlier in the quest still there? If so, interacting wwith them may give you back the item. It might also be worth checking by a calamity salvager to see if it can be recovered from them.

Yea unfortunately there's nothing around the site that is interactive. I appreciate the suggestion however. I'm just not entirely sure where to go from here.

Also worth mentioning that I didn't have any luck with the calamity salvager either.
