    Unable to download patch files.

I have been attempting to redownload the game but instead I get this error:

Unable to download patch files. [30413][25008][20495]

For reference, I have the steam version of the game. It's weird because I just recently installed the game a week ago, but then accidentally uninstalled it since I had two versions (steam and non steam) clients installed on my PC. I'm not sure how to fix this. I have tried disabling my antivirus but that isn't working.

Seems messy. Not sure which version of the game you trying to update, the Steam version or the flat one? Run CCleaner and clean your registry first, multiple times, till everything is fine. Run the game as admin. Uninstalling everything FFXIV related and then installing it again should do the trick, too. Both Steam and the flat version should work fine with no issues.

    Akamai CDN issue?

I was just having this issue (and might have a solution)! I have a theory that I'll post later, but to help us all figure this out:

    Are you running Windows?
If so, could you please Start Menu -> Run -> "cmd" (enter) and type "nslookup patch-dl.ffxiv.com" (enter)?

Please post bottom resolved portion here (right click, mark, drag the area for copy, hit enter). Mine looks like this:

    Non-authoritative answer:
    Name: a1441.g.akamai.net
    Addresses: 23.10.240.162
    23.10.240.160
    Aliases: patch-dl.ffxiv.com
    patch-dl.ffxiv.com.edgesuite.net

Now Google "nslookup online" and put "patch-dl.ffxiv.com" in the nslookup site you choose (make sure it's different from the IP you're already getting).

Take that IP and add a line to your C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file. It's hidden, so you may just want to hit open in notepad and paste the path in. You may have to run notepad as an Administrator to save that file. Mine looks like this now:

    ...
    # 127.0.0.1 localhost
    # ::1 localhost
    2.21.246.19 patch-dl.ffxiv.com
The idea is that the Amakai CDN node we're being directed to for patch-dl.ffxiv.com might be having issues, so we go to another one by using the hosts file to redirect it manually.

Good luck and please post the IP you used if this works!

Also, please post the IP that didn't work. I'm assuming they're static and I'd like to start a list.

You're best bet is to run a free VPN software called CyberGhost. Just install and click "protect my pc" and proceed to download patch files (also works on fresh installs if you're having trouble with that).

I had to do the same, had tried everything else, including a clean install of windows, tried with both 7 & 10 with no firewall or antivirus.

Install VPN, download patch, uninstall VPN. Is working for 90% of PC users I've ran into with this same issue.

Sorry PS4 folks, this doesn't work for you

cyberghost does work wonders, as for ps4 players, you need to change your dns settings on the ps4 to the google dns settings, and that bypasses it. i believe they were 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

I have the same problem, haven't been able to play for a week.

Using cyberghost I get the exact same error. GG. If this issue is not addressed within the month I'll be forced to cancel my sub.

If you're on PC, you may also try changing your DNS settings to the ones listed above. That may work for some. Never tried it.

Well the server move seems to have fixed my problem, this heavily points to it being ISP/location related rather than on my end. Glad I can finally play though, I love this game and would hate to have to cancel because it stopped working.

Umbrellaclown, you are a genius. <3

This worked perfectly. I had tried everything. Deleting files, switching DNSes, VPN, nothing worked. Seems like any network change that works is actually triggering a switch to a DNS that returns a working IP. My theory is that the ns-lookup websites are using some commercial DNS that updates more frequently than the consumer ones. Once Google and OpenDNS update, the IPs listed are quickly swamped, leading us to workarounds like this.

This is clearly a server issue, and probably not something SE has control over. That said, something still needs fixing. A hosts file workaround is more than any regular gamer should be expected to do.

By the way, these are the IPs that OpenDNS returned when I was having issues. Granted, this was about three days ago, but at the time, these IPs did NOT work:

    165.254.114.24
    165.254.114.16
