    Hello! Basic noob Q's

    - what level does mount riding unlock?
    - how much will it cost (need to decide if I need to save my Gil?)
    - are scholars good healers in terms of group play and how do they stand solo?

    - Last, I LOVE crafting I use to play Star Wars galaxies but the game was shut down in 2012 and that game had complex crafting where stats on resources were forever changing and some had highs and low quality that would determine the stats of food or gear based off the quality of materials. Is crafting the same or nearly the same?

Also, HEY SQUARE ENIX! I think it is time to make your account page more user friendly, PlayStation told me to go to mog station on the website to upgrade, yet mog station told me you can't upgrade ps trials on there! caused so much frustration, but after 2 days I got it!

    Welcome to the game

You will need to be at least level 20 for your chocobo mount and the cost is not gil but Grand Company seals.
It used to be 2000 seals but do believe they lowered that.

This may give you some idea http://www.ffxivguild.com/ffxiv-arr-...-realm-reborn/

Scholars are most definately a good healer and can dps as well, your fairy helps in this regard.
Crafting can seem complex in ffxiv and from patch to patch they do add more recipes. You can craft High Quality for say materia and in turn it makes the rest of the process somewhat easier for whatever the final product it is you are crafting

Try to keep up with the main storyline quests. Those are the ones with the flaming meteor icon. They unlock a lot of the features of the game. So during one of the level 20 storyline quests you'll be asked to join an army. When you do so, theyll let you buy a mount for 200 of a currency you cant earn until you join said army(mind you, 200 takes maybe 5-10 mins to earn). Completing that quest and buying that mount unlocks the mount feature, and any other mounts you may have at that time(for instance, maybe a veteran reward mount) become usable.

So as of this writing there are 3 healer classes in game. They all have their pluses and minuses, but all 3 are fine. They all group well, and scholar is the one that solo's the best because they have the faerie to help them. With the faeries help you have good flexibility to do damage while still healing, just dont depend entirely on the faerie to keep a group up in a tough fight and youll do fine.

As for galaxies, i never played it so i couldnt begin to compare crafting systems. This game has a fairly complex crafting system, most items do have normal and high quality versions you can craft if you do well enough, and its certainly something you can check out. The crafting guilds all have material suppliers nearby that sell all the stuff you need to make recipes up to about level 15, so you could easily set aside a block of an hour or two and try making some things to see how it feels.

If you've ever played Final Fantasy 7 the materia works much the same as there, except you can't remove it.
If you HAVEN'T played Final Fantasy 7, then materia is little stat boosting gems(basically) that you can insert into your gear. You have to have the correct crafter at the item's physical level to be able to meld materia, or go to a Materia Melder in town. You also need to have a Carbonized Matter equal to or superior in Grade to your Materia. IE, Peity I Materia is Grade 1, Peity II is Grade 2, etc.

Mutamix can remove materia for you. Though it's destroyed in the process.

Materia you only need to really worry about for level 60 content (this includes crafters and gatherers as well)
Gear has sockets but certain gear you may actually add more materia then what is shown on the gear which is referred to as overmelds. This can be expensive but is the norm for crafters
