I read that 1080p is in the end better than 4k unless you like the image to be slow. Is this true?
Should we wait many years until 4k is faster?

By the time 4k is faster they will probably have 8k or 16k or something greater

You'd need a monitor over 70" to see the difference between 4k and 8k.
4k Superwide will probably be the new shtick after 4k. But for computer monitors, I think 4k is going to be the actual cap we'll see.
I disagree. I can see the difference between 1080p and 4k even on my laptop. It's much sharper in 4k.

He meant 4k and 8k.
I'll keep with my 1440p (2k) 24" monitor. 4K monitors are too big and too demanding. I rather play on maximum graphics and smooth FPS than 4K with less graphic quality or low FPS!

Unless you do other things (e.g. photography), 4k is already overkill for e-sports. You look to what happens and try react as fast as possible, no time for details and 2k is fine for it. As said above, I'd go for more fps than resolution.
But nothing against get all the goodies I can get! As long as I don't go under 60 fps, more pixel for details are always welcome.
On side note, my home pc now barely keeps 30fps@720p and I want share the pain of a dead rig and no options to get another... /sadpanda
I'm not sure what you mean with faster 4K, 4K is just a resolution. If you mean framerate then the 1080ti can already run today's games on ultra at close to or sometimes above 60fps, if you're talking about a 4K monitor with higher refreshrate then they are on their way this year. Asus have a 4K 144hz monitor coming out later this year it's expensive though. So 4K is already here and many are already playing their games in 4K so we don't have to wait many years for it to become "faster" at all.
In the end, what's best for you is what your graphic card is capable of.

4K is very doable right now if you are willing to spend on it, I just landed 61fps (9300 score) in high desktop settings running through gamestream to my 4K TV. Avoid the HBAO+ Quality preset and you can easily max everything else without trouble. SLI works pretty well here too, so theoretically you could get 8k playable too. It's not practical or worthwhile on a multitude of levels for the moment though.
QHD/WQHD is the best compromise for the time being though.

Here's some 8K gaming tests with 1080ti sli https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnjdWcnPWtE 8K is a couple years away though.![]()
