TL;DR - The mogstation is pure greed. Before mogstation introduction a players subscription entitled players to all new content not tied to a promo or event outside the game. Now, the mogstation will be where all new content goes that is not tied to events or promo's outside of game.
With the introduction of the mogstation it seems more and more new content that isnt obtainable via any other means, in game quests, special events, or even promotions, has been straight to the mogstation. Given that before the mogstation was introduced the player base could obtain items via the list means. Everything was obtainable in-game. Unless it was a fan fest or a promo like the current one with amazon with the DLC.
As much as I wish this was still the normal routine with all new content, it isnt. Unless a item or items is part of a promo or some other means, everything now is straight to mogstation. Given that back before the introduction of the mogstation I never let my sub lapse due to the fact I did not want to miss out on events or one time chances at obtaining items. If someone missed out on a event and then those items should up the following year those items will be on the mogstation.
I understand fantasia and additional retainers. Keep those up on mogstation. But when new content is straight to mogstation, it makes me wonder does SE truly want my money? Since the introduction of mogstation I've let my subscription lapse numerous times because the desire to stay subscribed has sunk. Oh no what about veteran rewards. Those do not matter to me as when ever my account would reach the required time needed to meet the next reward I'll receive that reward.
If this were a free to play game by all means, straight to mogstation I could cold heartedly agree on. Yet it is a subscription based. Which in turn should grant myself and many others who feel the same way access to all new content that is not tied to a promo or event outside the game. Given that before the mogstation was introduced there did not seem to be a issue with new content being received in game.
If SE were so adamant on using the mogstation for additional income, instead of holiday events, valentines, Easter, and the like, have events on a biweekly timer with items attained during events. If someone missed the event then those items will be on the mogstation during the time period of the next event.
This is not the case though. The mighty $$$ has overturned this venture. In my opinion this needs to change otherwise what does my subscription pair for?
Before the mog station, my subscription entitled me to all new content that was released. Be it emotes, event specific gear, weapon glamours. If it was fanfest related or a promo outside the game that I chose to miss out on, than that was my loss.
No aside from expansions, the things that subscribers could have gotten by maintaining there subs are straight to the mogstation because of one simple reason.. Greed. I have nothing against putting past items/emotes/gear sets up on the mogstation. As stated before, that gives someone the opportunity to purchase those items.
Same applies to promo items or fanfest items. If these items find their way onto the mog station I am not against it. What I am against is items/emotes/gear sets that arent even tied to anything outside the game being put straight onto the mogstation. This in turn is the greed or paywall.
Given that if the content was released into the game via ingame content then the paywall would be the players subscription cost. Nothing more nothing less. Now the paywall is subscription cost + cost of the item. Something has to give. But since the wool has been pulled over the majority of the communities eye's the mighty $$$ will win everytime.
With that said, I honestly believe stormblood will be my last adventure through FFXIV. Not looking forward to the new relic/anima grind in 4.0-4.1. Already see it being a copy/paste of farm fates because hey fates are fun and SE must promote how so many players are adventuring through the massive zones of FFXIV. Please look forward too it.
