Players cannot police themselves. this is the internet and an online game. sorry to be pessimistic but it just doesn't fit within the world of FFXIV.

There is absolutely no way the people of Balmung would keep it tame, even with screenshots. It would just be near naked characters forever, in every house.
they've said a few times that they won't do this unfortunately, because it would be too hard to regulate what we put in the frame.![]()

Hiya sweetheart o/
As Acilith said, they won't keep it tame. Technically they don't keep it tame no matter what, even now... I've seen by action how vulgar players can be. So, should we just have the game close period. Anything on the game can be corrupted as prooven by players running around doing certain lewd acts which, unlike the pictures, is not being done behind closed doors. At least the pictures would be behind closed doors. That's actually better than the acts performed openly now. If we took down anything that players abuse would not the game be closed now? Just saying, we can't not do things because of the inappropriate behavior of a few. As the game stands, players have through actions taken it a bit too far, so by the measurement that we should not add something because it can be abused, we shouldn't have a game to play right now.

I mean you're not wrong? I see minfilia portraits with stuff covering her face so it's just a picture of her chest. But uhhh, well.. ok? I'm not sure what to tell you here.

Your logic is way out in left field. People are vulgar in other ways, so let's just do this anyway?
Nobody needs to be able to upload custom images into their HOUSE or HOUSES. It's an open invitation for every sicko with a subscription to go wild. I've never heard of this other game you mentioned, and there's probably a good reason for that. This is a popular game, and there are millions of people--plenty under 18--playing it. Final Fantasy is a well-loved IP, and SquareEnix is rightfully very protective of it and its reputation.
Besides, such images would clash horribly with the game's aesthetic. I don't want to see a real life photo of someone's pets inside the game houses...it would look ridiculous.

Hiya Sylfain,
By your logic sweetheart, if it can be corrupted then don't do it. If we go by that, then the game shouldn't even be allowed. Every aspect of the game can be corrupted as it stands currently. If you don't believe me, check out some of the videos on youtube. I did some research before comming to play the game and I was appauled, but I realized I can't base my experiences on what a few twisted individuals do. But by the logic you present "Don't do it because it can be corrupted" the game should closed. And as for the nobody needing to have custom images into their house... nobody needs to play the game either, but we do it for enjoyment. Having customizable images would make that more enjoyable and more personable to each individual rather than having the same exact images on your walls as the next housie. As for YOU not wanting to see real life pictures of someone elses housie... you could merely not enter other peoples housies. It's totally YOUR choice, but I would love to see a personal touch rather than uniformity in art and decor. There are plenty who are even under the age of 13 who play Archeage where this is allowed for the last 5 years, so it's proven it can and does work hun work =)

Sure, people can be vulgar, but you can blacklist/report them, and it's done. What kind of trouble though could SE get into, if people upload illegal images into their game? What does that do to their reputation? How much of their time gets eaten up answering authorities about these illegal images? Some no-name company with a game that's probably FTP has nothing to lose, but we're talking here about a roughly 20 year old IP that once brought this company back from the brink of extinction--they'd be insane to take that kind of risk, especially just to please a few people.
If you think the current HOUSING decor is uniform, you're not trying. Users come up with new and unique designs all the time. For the most part, HOUSING stays pretty classy, and is about the only aspect of the game that users can't do anything inappropriate to. The HOUSES right now look classy: why ruin it?
Also, saying not to go into other peoples' HOUSES is not a realistic solution. Does your FC have a HOUSE?

Let me break this down to you from a corporate viewpoint.
Some bad customers post child porn etc in their house - some media joint picks it up and goes for a clickbaity title claiming "Square Enix MMO Final Fantasy XIV players are showcasing child porn in their virtual houses".
PR disaster - check.
Additional spending (dev man hours, salary for more staff) to develop countermeasures or police the players across ALL servers in ALL regions. - check
Legal team having to fend off parents or organizations suing - check
Damage to brand of "Final Fantasy" - check
This is just 2mins off the top of my head. I am sure there are more.
This is so you can have a custom image in a picture frame in your virtual house. Sorry, but i have to say its more profitable and benefical to Square Enix to not implement the suggestion.
Have a nice day.
