Maybe not entirely "new player," but it's new to me. Plus I didn't want this lost in the Stormblood Sea that is GD right now.
Disclaimer, haven't purchased HW expansion, I know I could probably be skipping most of this, but honestly, seems like a bit of a waste just to get to the end and still basically be doing the same thing. So, slow and steady is my style.
So, here I am making it to 50 and finding content getting a lot more open-ended, and not always completely clear about directions to take. I think I've got an idea of what to do, but, looking for a bit of guidance to know if I'm missing anything.
Combat Classes
This seems pretty straightforward. Plenty of new dungeons or trials and so forth, keep up with quests. Trying out the relic quest, but getting the impression that I really don't want to try pushing this for every job. For other gear, I've already started using Poetics for Ironworks gear (accessories to start with, i90 job gear seems sufficient for just starting here). I've seen that I can Augment the Ironworks to i130 I think. Will I be able to get much further than that before transitioning to HW?
Crafting Classes
Feeling a little more muddy here. For gear, I think I'm aiming for Militia offhand tools? Or is there anything better to find for that? Was planning on getting the class-specific gear sets, but then it also looks like I want to jump to the Artisan's set afterward at least. Crafting the special turn-in materials seems simple enough.
I'm a little less sure on the demimateria part, though. I see I need/want to pick up some Mastercraft books, which take some Field/Battle I demis, do I basically just gotta buy/craft the recommended gear to desynth forever until I get enough? Is it important that I level up my desynth skill to improve my chances on these? Actually, what is the purpose of maxing out desynth? Is it just for having better odds on desynthing higher level gear? Kinda feels like for now I don't need to worry too much about any of that and just focus on the few items that will help me the most? Idk. The whole demimateria part of progression seems a bit vague.
Collector Classes
Gathering doesn't seem too complicated. Not very fun that all the important materials are time-gated now, but maybe won't be so bad once I get my stats higher. Which seems like I'm just aiming for Militia/Foragers gear? Gather up the special rocks/logs/fish to turn in for better gear. Feels like I want to prioritize gathering over crafting at first, just so it's easier to get the materials for the crafting. But also again need to focus on some demimateria stuff to get my tools up.
Am I missing anything? Seems like I've got enough to keep me busy for a while. Dunno if I'm missing anything to gear further, but seems like I've got the right idea for most of the progress. I know I'm skipping a bunch of combat gear progression with Ironworks, but that feels more natural, just given how much I collected through beast tribes, though I don't know if I should've saved those Poetics for anything else.
Think I'm going to have to keep a list somewhere of all the things I could be working on at any given time.
