Mostly just ffxi for 5+ years, but i played tera and vindictus for a short time.

I play the game cause a few old ffxi friends play. We enjoy each others company more than we enjoy the game currently, we can stand around doing nothing and chat/emote half the time.

We all agree that if the world of vana'diel got a HD remaster, wed probably leave in a heartbeat back to ffxi.

I dont dislike this game but at the same time I dont feel attached to it whatsoever and i agree with alot of sentiments in this thread about gear and lifespan. This game has alot of problems in retrospect but its a themepark mmorpg. Ffxi felt like traversing a different world playing daily in comparison. I knew alot of ppl from my server, many names i still remember 5+years later. Years later on this game and the only names that come to mind from my server are the ppl i play with regularly.

In my personal opinion this game suffers the most on the server side social aspect, progression second, and content lifespan third. Most major problems to me anyway.

    1) EQ1 and Wow, dabbled a bit in GW2, EQ2, SWTOR, AION, Lineage 2, still visiting Tera and Wildstar from time to time, played 1.0, currently main is Blade and Soul.

    2) I have a love hate relationship with FFXIV's progression system. When the game made the swap and I tried to play the game seriously I found it just really stale and boring. Since I play for different reasons now and don't take the game seriously enough on a personal level to warrant spending more time playing then I need to for those different reasons. FFXIV is very much a secondary game for me so I've grown to be okay with it. I'll do my couple dungeons a week when my group needs me and call it good.

    3) Given my circumstances, I'm okay with it staying the way it is.

    1. Where do you come from to XIV?

Well, its hard to say... if i should decide i would pick XI (7 Years) and FFXIV 1.0-1.23. Also played alot more MMORPGs and i am probably arround 15-16 Years into MMORPGs right now.

    2 & 3

    Well... No & No.

When XIV 1.0 hits the marked i enjoyed it until the End, it had XI Feeling, even the map were copy paste it atleast were dangerous. Speedrunning Dungeons for Body drops, Leveling in Groups while grinding Beastmen Outposts. Beastmen Outposts were Big.

The Tokensystem (which also remains out of QA) will remain the same. Even Blizzard found out that the Tokens arent needed anymore and basicly got rid of it.

Gear progression is a way too fast, how Long will it take until all the Armors will look the same?! (We already seen it in HW, where Alex Gear Normal and Savage looking the same, the Option to recolor and 5 Ilevels different aint enough)

This Game has no longevity, i came back about 1 month ago from a 2 Years break from the Game, were done with MSQ within a Week and now Standing arround and doing "nothing". I am just waiting for the MSQ from SB and maybe Hildebrand Questline and i am gone again.

This Game Needs alot more Love and Yoshi P should stop going all the time the safe with every Content he is adding to the Game. On a Breakdown, even a WoW Expansion offering more Features then a FFXIV Expansion does.

    TL;DR
The Game is okay but its Boring. Tanaka > Yoshi.

    1. I came from WoW but I was planning to come here anyways. Tho the MMO I played the longest was City of Heroes

    2. For the most part. I'm fine with how it is right now. Tanks and Healers need work done to them but that's about it.

    3. I'd probably add more customization options. Add a 2nd pet class and more races. I just like customisation a lot.

    1. Where do you come from to XIV? Play WoW, FFXI, GuildWars, ESO? FFXI.
    2. Do you like how the game currently progresses? Great.
    3. Do you want it to stay that way? If no, what changes would you make? Stay great!

    1) I came from various F2P MMOs, the main ones being MapleStory and Dragon Nest (the latter I had huge investment in, being a former moderator for the NA version of that game that was very close to the localization team). Alas, I had to leave both due to a series of really bad decisions that led to out of control stat inflation, among other even worse things that I could make essays out of that nobody sane has any time to read. One could say my specialty was to re-evaluate gameplay flow at all levels, not just endgame.

    2) I like how FFXIV is handled currently, especially considering which games I played prior to this, although there are things that should be addressed. There has to be something better than the current gear replacement cycle every 6-7 months. Some earlier content should really be addressed too - I started playing shortly after HW was released, and recently created a new character on Leviathan to see how things have changed for new players since then (and to watch the progress of a group of friends from Dragon Nest that recently decided to play FFXIV too).

The thing that struck me immediately was how difficult it actually is to catch up upon hitting Lv. 60 now. The friends that I watched over ended up going on hiatus shortly after they hit Lv. 60 to wait for Stormblood. Some couldn't meet the item level requirement to enter the Antitower or Sohr Khal in order to proceed in the story, and they only had three real choices in order to do so - grind the hell out of ARF for lore to purchase item level 230 gear (and considering the Umbrite step, few people are willing to help with that now), grind the hell out of Void Ark and later Weeping City (competing with people that have superior gear that are rolling just for grand company seals), or try to get someone to craft a full item level 250 set for them. There's also Alexander, except nobody queues up for Alexander normal 1-8 anymore. (Some have tried to PF for it, except it turns out most people joining in for free bonus lore end up forgetting about the fact that there are cutscenes to watch between each dungeon, and decide it's too slow and leave halfway.)

Another thing I've noted is that most new players now hit level 60 without ever knowing what Allied Seals and Centurio Seals are, because those currencies happen to be locked behind Grand Company ranks, a hunting log, AND three optional dungeons. The struggle to hit item level 170+ in order to do any content besides ARF/Neverreap/Fractal would be drastically reduced if the item level 200 set wasn't locked behind Centurio Seals (or Centurio Seals weren't locked behind 'optional' ARR content).

    3) Like mentioned, I don't think this 6 month gearing cycle is that sustainable, I sense long term problems with it. But admittedly, I don't know what to replace it with. I do want to say though that the game should not be vague on exactly what each stat does - other games will tell you what your exact critical hit rate is against an enemy the same level as you are, what effect determination actually has on your damage and healing received, and so on. FFXIV for some reason keeps such values invisible, behind numbers that don't mean anything besides 'higher is better, but I don't know exactly how' unless you happen to datamine - behavior that the staff doesn't seem to be very happy about.

I Started from Guild Wars but I still player GW2 today as it handles a lot of things better than FF14 for more open fun. The way things are progressing is ok but lacks variety of fun things for long term activites so i would like to see more changes to bring fun into the world maps for community activities in these maps which is something GW2 did right as the Expansion Maps and Season Maps are always full of people running Map events and completing the events as a community far more then what FF14 tried to do with FATEs.

As of now I only log into FF14 for the new content, grinding tomes from DF, and daily/weekly crafting quests.

PvE world map activities and PvP goes to GW2.

    1. SWTOR

    2. Progresses? slapping a new ilvl and coat of paint on gear every patch can we call that progression?

    3. I wouldnt mind a bit more challenge then just the trash mob>boss>trash mob we got. With SWTOR the raids were just spot on, Scum & Villainy you had to sneak into a place splitting up your group and taking out adds 1 by 1, Terror from Beyond everyone had to split up on the platforms and dps the boss from them these kind of things just add something to the boss fight then FFXIV's go into a small room, turn the boss around+dodge AOEs=zzzz..zzz.zz. Maybe its the 24man that inspires the zerg fest of dungeon design but I wouldnt mind more dynamic raids with 16man instead. I keep making references to SWTOR why? because swtor is a F2P MMO and for a subscription-based MMO I feel there should be more you know? There are plenty of things that F2P MMOs do better then FFXIV *cough* Outfit System *cough* thats my gripe with this game
