1. Oldschool Ultima Online, EverQuest, FFXI, and a bit of WoW.
2. Not at all.
3. Not at all. Needs a large revamp that someone who is getting paid to do it can write about in detail.
4. Probably trials. You can hop on and fight a boss with an enjoyable co-op experience within minutes.
I'm rather bored with the current design of the game. Apart from Savage / EX primals, every boss might as well be a training dummy. You can ignore all mechanics or ignore most of them. Just move a bit and dial in that rotation. There's no functional difference between any bosses where you ignore mechanics. You just do your rotation and they die. That's extremely boring, and it sounds like Stormblood isn't changing the status quo on that.

1. Where do you come from to XIV? Play WoW, FFXI, GuildWars, ESO, CoD, BF, Space Sim, Mario, etc?
My first MMO was a text based one called Darkness Falls, then my first "real" one was FFXI. Also played Lineage II, Tera, Aion, Ethersaga Online, Forsaken World and Perfect World.
2. Do you like how the game currently progresses? Do you enjoy how the core level and then gear level progression is paced and/or designed?
Nope. Too narrow. I am very tired of the same tomestone turn ins...none of the gear feels like it was earned at all and its all invalidated way too quickly for my tastes. I think 1.x had the best gear/progression design I have ever seen in an MMORPG. No ilvl, it wasn't too linear yet it was not pure horizontal. You could have gear sets for different dungeons (Which were 8 man!) and different materia melds per gear set ^^
3. Do you want it to stay that way? If no, what changes would you make?
Oh, no, see previous answer.
4. What is your favorite part of FFXIV, what do you appreciate most that the devs have done?
My favorite part of FFXIV was the Dalamud story and 1.x dungeons. With how Aurum Vale was (Poisonous rooms where you had to keep up regen and cures, kill certain mobs to progress, open certain chests for a different path) it was so much fun![]()

Last MMO I played was Dragon Nest but I played WoW for longer before that.

It only gets exciting once you hit cap on one class. As someone coming into the game at 3.3, there was so much to do I was so motivated to not be a pleb and trash gear. Even now I'm still hit with wonder and awe as I near BiS.
3. Do you want it to stay that way? If no, what changes would you make?
I haven't played FFXIV long enough to make any calls, but as of right now I really enjoy the game for what it is. I'm not sure how the devs could approach it, but the beginning levels are such a drag and that the only thing I'd complain about... I tried to get my irl friends to play but they said it was too boring even though I was constantly assuring that it got better (they could even LB, come on!). They didn't even make it to Sastasha.
4. What is your favorite part of FFXIV, what do you appreciate most that the devs have done?
Music and cutscenes and stories (You said one thing but whatever). I keep rewatching videos and listening to FFXIV music whenever possible and it gives me the chills every single time. The only time I can compare this to is seeing the WOTLK trailer. Of all the games I've played, I'm really thankful to the devs for listening to us whenever we have suggestions, even if they are not-so-good suggestions. Many people complain that there's lack of communication between the devs and players but we could always have it worse *cough cough Dragon Nest*. Also I love the little stories/easter eggs the devs take time to develop (when do I find out what's gonna happen in that Ishgardian Soap Opera though?)
