Honestly, coms should be given for outstanding play. In today’s society, our youth seem to feel that they are entitled to everything , no matter what effort given . Kind of sad that teachers aren’t allowed to fail children in school or now amateur competition events don’t even give bronze - platinum, gold then silver.....seriously? Or everyone should get something for participation. If it means that much to you to have a com in a game, just play your best and improve where you can and take critism as constructive . If you don’t get one and you are having a tantrum, do better next time

I get comms as dps when I throw in a joke or two, say hi, really anything to break the monotony of low level leveling roul dungeon.
Sometimes I also get one because I just happen to be the second to last guy to exit and the last guy threw it to me (probably)
To all the healers that I should have commended:
When things go smoothly, I get to see more clearly who is pulling their weight and commend accordingly.
When things go nuts and the healers really pulling their weight, I become too focused on keeping myself alive and doing damage. I do not know how much great healing you are doing because I am in tunnel vision mode. Then I just threw the commendations to one of two healers...

That happens a lot. Comms can seem somewhat random sometimes, but that's because it can become hard to tell exactly who is doing what. When things go nuts and the healers really pulling their weight, I become too focused on keeping myself alive and doing damage. I do not know how much great healing you are doing because I am in tunnel vision mode. Then I just threw the commendations to one of two healers...
Last night's Rabanastre is a good example. I got four comms for healing and explaining the fights to our newbies. Moro got two comms for healing and literally tanking the Azure Guard on the first boss, since our tank was not interested in tanking (or mechanics, or anything). I tend to think a WHM also pulling tank duty to make us not wipe a second time is probably more worth a comm than a fight explanation, but the explanation is REALLY visible and easily noticed whereas a DPSer in tunnel vision because we already wiped once to that add may not realize who is tanking it so long as it's not them.
That's also why things like fun res macros, cool glamour, and other such mood lifters tend to get comms. They're memorable. Without a parser running I have no idea if one of our DPSers is subpar and being carried by another one, so it's pretty hard to accurately comm that.

Yes, and no. I've had to res the entire alliance, as RDM, to avoid wiping, and still got no comms. I've done absolutely no healing/ressing(while it was still needed, I just didn't), and gotten 3 comms. It really is random, as you said, but there is no rhyme or reason to how people choose(I personally give my comm to the person who either died the least, or saved us the most...rarely do I not give out a comm).

Yeah, sometimes it just makes no sense. I've been honestly awful in some groups as a healer and gotten 2-3 comms, and other times felt like I was carrying the entire group myself and gotten zero. In that run last night I talked about, the RDM was an absolute pro and only got one comm (from me, which I know because all of them are accounted for).Yes, and no. Sometime's there is just no rhyme or reason to it, but I find stuff being more visible increases your likelihood of getting them.

Eh comms don’t really mean anything imo. I always throw a comm at the end of a dungeon or whatever, but it’s rarely because I actually noticed someone doing something better than anyone else. I play dps so I usually just comm the other dps, or if it’s an 8 person thing I’ll choose another dps at random. Sometimes by the time I get to the comms there is only one other person still there so I just give it to them. Honestly I’m too busy worrying about what I have to do that I really don’t notice or pay attention to who is doing what. Occasionally it’s obvious that someone has gone above and beyond enough that I actually notice and then I’ll give them a comm, but usually I’m giving it out just to give it to someone.

OP, a male miqo'te will never get my commend : play a female miqo'te ar female au'ra and I might consider giving you a comm
Beside that, if you didn't get your commend, it probably means the tank left a better impression since it's mostly either one of those roles that gets commended.

For me it's the opposite: female Miqo'tes will never get my comm unless they absolutely deserves. The same goes for female Au ri. But male Au ri and male Miqo'tes are ok enough if they're dressed. Naked males is never ok for me and falls on the same case of female miqo'tes.
Me too, because manashifting/refreshing me are one of the "absolutely deserves" cases. And if the other healer was helpful, why not?
