Maybe you don't have to get it. It's not a simple matter of "toggling" the music on and off. It's a several step process that doesn't actually turn the music off even, it just mutes it. You think when I'm doing a long crafting session that I want to stop every couple of minutes to turn it on/off manually? Get real. If you wouldn't want it or can't see a reason for YOU to use it, that's fine. Don't use it if implemented. But if you've been reading the posts here, there are plenty of people who can see a legitimate use for this that would enhance their enjoyment of their houses/apartments/FC rooms and probably many more who either don't come to the forums or can't be bothered to reply. You've got no legs to stand on to oppose this. Your suggestion of "toggle the music off" does nothing to contribute to the conversation. Some people might want something like: Song 1, 2 min silence, Song 2, Song 3, 2 min of ambient noise, repeat, but any lack of comprehension as to why someone would want to do something like that is no reason for you to dismiss the idea out of hand.
FFXIV has wonderful music. It's just that sometimes you need a break. Believe it or not having silence between tracks is a NORMAL thing. You don't go to a concert and listen to 3 hours of straight music. They play a song, talk, change instruments, etc between songs for a couple min, then play another song. There are commercials and DJ chatter on the radio between songs. The list goes on and on. Even the music in the open world is designed this way: a 1-3 minute track, 2 minutes of silence (not ambient noise, that was playing during the music too though the music might have overpowered it), then play of the track again. Some people might want to recreate that (like me). Some people might just want to have silence on their orch in order to auto toggle the games music in their house to off. That's fine too, considering turning the orch off just means that default housing music plays, and people really shouldn't have to go through the hassle of manually turning their music off every time they enter their housing.
It's called a Quality of Life adjustment for a reason. Stuff like this aren't meant to be game breaking. It's to give an option and flexibility to people who would use it. I'm sure when Materia Meld NPCs were added a lot of people didn't see a need for them or don't use them to this day. That's fine. The NPCs aren't hurting those people or detracting from their gameplay experience. There ARE people who use the NPCs, gaining a benefit from their presence. The presence of those NPCs has improved the QoL of those that use them. It's no different with silence/ambient noise tracks: either you love the idea and will use it, or you don't care/don't see a point and won't use it. The second group of people do not and should not have any bearing on the first and whether the idea is a good one or not.

Rhaegar, get people to post that type of idea on this thread.I'd like for us to be able to do something similar with our Orchestrations. I'm officially requesting that SE make a 2 minutes of silence orchestration scroll and make it available for 1k gil on some npc.
Please like to upvote this so that it will appear on the devs radar. Even if you wouldn't personally use this, it wouldn't hurt anyone to have this in the game either and would only take a couple mins of the devs time to actually develop while working on a patch/expansion.

It already has the request too about silence mode as well as a couple other effects. This thread I posted is already on the dev tracker and they responded to it for to get more feedback as the devs were interested into doing this.
It would allow you to set the tone of your house for when people visit.
Maybe go even further and let us define how long we want a specific music on the playlist to play and how long we want silence before the start of the next track. That way we could actually make transitions between songs on the Orchestrion playlist. I already had the feeling that some tracks just stop too apruptly and I'd like them to play a little while longer.
