It's not a bad idea, but doing something like this would basically require the devs to overhaul the entire Orchestration system. It's a small QoL improvement that probably isn't worth that level of effort. The alternative is the tossing in of scrolls to achieve the same effect, which would not be nearly as demanding on the devs' time, making it a much more realistic request to make of them.

Yeah I know but from working as a programmer myself band-aid fixes make my butt twitch I don't always get the chance to do it the right way, either, but I always try to where I can.

Of course, but one should consider how a programmers answer to that request would function in practice. The first thing that comes to mind to me is that the break would be interjected between every song in the playlist. That leaves no option for, say, playing 2-3 songs, then a break, then a couple more. I don't really see it as a bandaid fix, as "blank scrolls" are exactly what I think are most appropriate for this request. Not just from a programming standpoint, but from a practical and user flexibility stand point as well.

I'd love this. Just the sound of a crackling fireplace and grandfather clock, in my cozy little house.

As a side request: Some other ambient tracks as well, please; such as rain, thunder, gales, along with combinations of them.

I was sitting in South Shroud just now doing some gathering/crafting and this really nice music comes on, lasts for a short while, and then silence for a few minutes before it coming on again. I'd like for us to be able to do something similar with our Orchestrations. I'm officially requesting that SE make a 2 minutes of silence orchestration scroll and make it available for 1k gil on some npc.

Please like to upvote this so that it will appear on the devs radar. Even if you wouldn't personally use this, it wouldn't hurt anyone to have this in the game either and would only take a couple mins of the devs time to actually develop while working on a patch/expansion.
Silence on a loop in a dimly lit house sounds erie... take all my upvotes!

We could ask them to implement a feature in our orchestrion to set a gap between music, toggling it anywhere from No gap to 5mins.

If you're capable of healing DRK back in ShB (or any tanks), then you'll heal EW DRK just fine.

I love this idea. I loved the orchestrion at first, but I haven't turned it on in weeks because the constant music started to wear me out. I love those times when I'm out gathering and it goes all quiet (think it's maybe when dusk falls or something). And then you'll hear a wolf howl. Bliss. Lots more ambient sounds please as well as those moments of silence. Rain on the roof. Crackling fire. Howling winds. The thunder in the Sylphlands is awesome when there's no background music drowning it out. Don't get me wrong, I love XIV's music - thanks Uematsu & Soken - but silence just makes the music more thrilling when it starts again

Just... toggle the BGM off if you want quiet? I get wanting ambience options for inside the house, but a "silent" orchestrion roll is just a pointless waste of resources. It takes less than 5 seconds to turn off.

How is it a waste of resscoures to make scrolls that are having no sounds or ambient sounds on them? It should be as much work (or maybe even less) than making scrolls with music.
Really with this logic we wouldnt need any scrolls at all, because you can just go into the area where the music plays, if you want to hear it

The reason I like and support this idea is that it allows you to really "compose" the playlist for your home. The suggestion to just turn of the music for 2 minutes and then turn it on again is pretty unpractical. If you want a playlist with Song A - Silence - Song B right now, it would require you to put a song into the silence space, mute your game (or the BGM) for the duration of that song and turn it on again... it would also only work for you, so anyone whos visiting your house couldnt experience the way you intend it to be. You might also miss the start of Song B if you turn the music on to late, starting in the middle of a song blasting through the house.

I'd very much like this with a "fade in, fade out"-feature (I dont know if the game already provides that when making playlists - I would hope so though...), to allow us to really compose an atmosphere for our homes!

So +1 for silence and ambient sounds, please!
