Its not that much smaller and FF14 has never released new shop items when there has been no new game content released in over 8 months. WoW has.

I get people are frustrated that there are things on the Cash Shop they want and they cant get in game but the reality is that if we didn't have the cash shop we would end up getting less, not more. The cash shop increases the revenue FF14 receives and in turn justifies higher investment into the game. Unless you have a suggestion that will guarantee a sudden explosion in the FF14 sub numbers, a cash shop is a valid and effective way of them increasing revenue and in turn providing justification to reinvest, hire new staff and upgrade systems.

You want more in FF14? Then SE needs to find a way to finance extra projects.

WoW add things like once or twice a year though, and most of the seasonal stuff is in game when the event comes up again. Right now SE is updating the cash shop once a month it seems. That's not to say they shouldn't have a cash shop at all but it seems they are getting way more aggressive with it lately.

A lot of the stuff they add is stuff players demanded they add, including Seasonal stuff. There were threads asking for it. Most of the stuff they have added lately is special marketing sets originally only intended to be released in China and Korea. The only reason they are on our cash shop is players demanded that SE sell them to us too.

As for WoW, they do allow you to access most previous years seasonal events but they have barely updated their seasonal events over the years. Some years they haven't even bothered to add anything.

They offered the older items on vendors in the first year, at some point they realized they could actually charge people that couldn't wait for them and the rest is history. I saw requests for items that weren't on vendors, like the moonlit earring which was fine and I remember a thread complaining about it too.

I don't really have a problem with the seasonal stuff, other region stuff or things made exclusively for the cash shop, I just think stuff like Sleipnir (was already in game, even copies race of person who killed it last) is lame.
