Why do so many people have this weird compulsion to compare things to restaurants? FFXIV isn't a restaurant.
What sort of restaurant kicks you out unless you subscribe?
It's also pretty limited when it comes to vanity stuff - old holiday stuff you can rebuy in-game anyway if you were there when they happened, some other region promotional items that get brought in sans a promotion, a few npc outfits/looks, and even armor sets that are already in the game (and can be dyed I think) just done in unique colors as level 1 vanity items.
I think there has been one time where, when looking for a glamour set, I thought a mogshop option was what I was looking for.
Watch the London Keynote, Yoshi talks about it. The mogstation has paid for the EU data center (thank you!) and other features. It isn't pay to win and Yoshi said never will be so I have zero issues with it.

TL;DR - The mogstation is pure greed. Before mogstation introduction a players subscription entitled players to all new content not tied to a promo or event outside the game. Now, the mogstation will be where all new content goes that is not tied to events or promo's outside of game.
What people who make these posts fail to accept is that all that stuff in the Mog station would not exist as player useable content without the Mog station. "All new content" will not be exclusive to the Mog station and stating such is just ridiculous. Asking for the Mog station to go away is tantamount to saying you don't want any of that optional stuff to exist as player usable content. You may think thats not what you're asking for but it is. The bean counters at any game developer will say "this is your budget. you can make as much content as this budget will cover. Anything else has to be scrapped." The "anything else" is all that stuff in the Mog Station. The only reason the extra stuff in the mog station exists (barring old holiday rehashes) is because the bean counters said "you can make this extra stuff outside the budget if we can sell it for a profit".
I can't explain it any simpler than that.
How many men am I involved with? Well that depends... do you mean men as in males? Or just midlanders?

Unless you pay for food? Uh... every single one? O.o
Srsly, point me to a restaurant that gives away free food. It's lunch time here.
I think both of you are wrong to compare a restaurant with FFXIV. With FFXIV, you pay a monthly fee and if you want extra stuff, you pay extra. When you go to a restaurant you only pay for the stuff that you have ordered (maybe some tips for the waiter/ress). I think a better way is to compare a restaurant to a F2P game, there you only pay for the stuff you want extra. So entering the game = entering the building and buying extra stuff = ordering food/drinks.
Personal opinion about the Mog Station is that since Heavensward was released, they have been adding alot of stuff to the Mog Station, while I can understand exclusive mounts, the past event items could have been added in the game (most events are very short, adding the previous event items for event currency, would make event last longer for newcomers and those that missed it), the emotes should also have stayed a quest reward, instead of being sold for half amount that you need to pay for a subscription.
Those items are not necessary, but lets not forget that hairstyles are also not necessary, minions are also not necessary, vanity items outside dungeon gear and tome gear are also not necessary, for majority the raid content and PvP is also not necessary. Using the not necessary argument can backfire. SE used to release 4 hairstyles each patch , now they went to 3 hairstyles and 1 hairstyle was sold via the Mog Station, next they might only release 2 hairstyles for free and sell 2 more via Mog Station and who knows in patch 4.3, they might aswell just only introduce new hairstyles via Mog Station, because lets be honest its not necessary, right?![]()

Yes... a subscription means you get to play each month. You get one month of playtime when buying the game initially. The game offers you more content every 2-3 months, and even events in between. So, you basically do get something every month. For which you pay a subscription for. But if you want extras on the side... you pay more. Which is why the items in the mog station are called "optional".

Try going to a restaurant at a private club. You need to pay the club membership (subscription) just to get in the door then you need to pay for that really good cheese cake for desert (cash shop)...damn it, now I'm hungry.
