Final Money XIV is such a great game !

That is just your way to think about „optional“ items.
Did you ever expect, they will implement emotes in Mogstation only?
It’s not just „cosmetic“ items now, actually a lot of really good looking gear, emotes and mounts, or chocobo-barding are now implemented in shop only.
Man that sucks!
And to all who think it’s just cosmetic, wait till there will be new gear or anima boosts are something. This WILL come, sooner or later, like the emotes.
For me and lots of other players too , raid gear in mog-shop would be seen as „optional“ too.
We pay a monthly subscribtion, and the addons cost too.
I know Square Enix have to maximize profit too, like every other company, but this is getting out of hand…
Btw. glamour is the truly endgame![]()

You're using a slippery slope fallacy. You're pretending that A leads inevitably to Z when there's no real reason to think that it does. The devs have repeatedly stated that the MogStation items will always be purely optional and cosmetic and will never include actual gear with stats.
Really good looking gear, mounts, emotes, and Chocobo barding are all still purely cosmetic, as they have absolutely no bearing on your ability to complete a dungeon (except for the ability to complete it while looking fabulous). So far, they have not strayed from their stated intention and there is no reason to believe that they will.

Might be my bad, but I fail to see how a dance or an emote is essential to anyone's gameplay. We got 2 new ones not too long ago in-game for doing the MSQ (HW), and now they added a couple of trivial ones to the MS. What exactly is getting out of hand? I don't see a glamour or an emote or a chocobo barding for that matter sth that would break the game. MS is a great way for people to catch up with all the 'promotions', 'exclusives' and 'event items' that they might have missed out on. That's why they are called optional items. In-game gear that gives you stats is not an optional item. You NEED it, and you need to EARN it. FF has been around for quite a while and I just don't see them going the WoW way with boosts or the ESO way with a ton of exp boost scrolls and such things.

OST minions
preorder items
CE items
Bonus item from FF XIII game box
Bonus item from an active FF XI account

Um... they're adding dances and emotes in quests all the time, aren't you paying attention? The Mog Station dances are extra ones they work on. Although ti would be nice if they added them into the game via NPCs (and I agree that the eastern dance could have been acquired in Doma), I often read in these forums that they don't add any emotes or dances into the game via quests at all anymore. Which is not true. We get emotes in almost every event, and we got 3 beast tribe dances in HW, which are all available via quests.

The cash shop isn't purely cosmetic. Extra retainers aren't vanity, jump potions aren't vanity.
To the people saying stuff wouldn't exist, with maybe a couple of exceptions I think it would, most of it was created for events or is made of reused or recoloured assets.
SE never said the sub wouldn't cover essential server upgrades, they said that the cash shop funds can be used to pay for them. I don't for one second believe that our subs aren't enough to cover everything, I can however easily believe that money won't be allocated to FFXIV until certain MogStation milestones are cleared though.

Incorrect. The game plays perfectly well without extra retainers; they are in no way necessary to play the game, they are a convenience. Jump potions are the same, you don't need to buy one to play, it just makes getting to SB more convenient.
This is only partially true. Subs can be enough to run a game but that doesn't mean they're enough to run a game well or to the standards that their players expect. There is a reason most subscription MMOs also have a cash shop, game development is expensive; while the costs of game development don't require a cash shop but they are very attractive to the business. For a company like SE I can very easily see how the subs wouldn't be enough to pay for everything and implementing the cash shop could be a necessary part of their business model to keep the game going.

No, I'm correct. Retainers and jump potions aren't cosmetics. I never mentioned their effect on gameplay.
When people say the optional extras are just cosmetic they are 100% wrong.
They ran this very game to the same standards they do now before it had a cash shop. In fact, they wouldn't shut up about how amazing it was financially. This is only partially true. Subs can be enough to run a game but that doesn't mean they're enough to run a game well or to the standards that their players expect.

Yeah, think I'm going to go and get some lunch.
Also, that sounds pretty expensive, does the club do other things besides food?

No, inventory is a big problem right now and two retainers are not enough.
