Honestly I wish it just worked like Diadem for any instance, minus being able to switch to crafting classes. Keep the role requirements to queue for stuff, i.e. 1 tank, 1 healer, 2 dps, but let everyone change freely once inside.
I could see it being used to troll people if it was totally free. Prompt asking you if you'd like to switch if someone leaves though would be nice.

If you're torn on which job to play... why not just assign jobs a set of numbers and just /random?

DF popping out at same speed of potd? That's a godsend feature! Queue df with multiple roles and just have to switch to any job of the role df chosen for me, will be awesome.

It will all depend on the server load. If it is a burden the dev team might be reluctant to implement such idea. Specially now that there are cross server parties they have to be careful with servers. Not to mention the upcoming NA datacenter relocation and upgrade. But the idea is nice, I'd love to see something like that.
Lol... This is kind of a basic functionality that dungeon finders in other MMOs have. I can't imagine a checkbox storing "you queued as tank AND healer" would be much of a horrible burden.

Whether it's basic in other MMOs is irrelevant. Whether it would be easy to implement in THIS MMO depends on how they coded the system as it works now.

Believe me, I know from experience that any supposedly "easy" coding change can have a lot of unforeseen consequences...

If FFXIV can't do something that is basic in other MMOs, their coding is bad and should be fixed, regardless of whether fixing it would be easy or difficult.

In terms of the OP's post, I am definitely in support of this. There are roulettes I wouldn't mind tanking, healing, or DPSing if that would make the queue pop faster. I agree with the other poster that if you check "tank" as one of your queue options, you've got a much, much higher chance of queuing in as that anyway, but if that makes the queue pop instantly for yourself and anyone paired with you, then it's working as intended.

I think that Square has somewhat underestimated the impact having two more DPS classes will have on duty finder queues (their opinion is that there's enough leveling content i.e. PotD to keep the queues from soaring--but how does that help DPS endgame queues?), and that if the growing number of DPS players does make for more unbalanced queues, they might have to start thinking about implementing something like OPs idea.

    It would cause a problem

Its a nice idea however based on the way the queue system is used, in any mmo, it will be constantly changing the queue and interfere with the set up. Example:

    A healer and a DPS,

Healer part pending one Tank is then dismissed and re-queued do to player joins other party as a different role.

Tank as secondary role....hello tanks usually get it right away so what would be the point? same scenario.

It would continue to be a problem on re matching constantly. I'm sure SE did think about this and probably saw the same problem. The problem isn't programming, that's the easy step. The BS that comes afterwards is what programmers want to avoid. Kind of the ohhh it's too hard and ohh it's too easy.

I don't understand what you're trying to say. The function is simple: a checkbox for queueing as various different jobs. In other MMOs this takes the form as a check box for tank, healer, or dps. For example in WildStar, I will sometimes check both healer and dps when queueing and let the game decide which role I will fill. If someone drops mid-run and you have to requeue, it does a role check again, which also allowed people to switch to a role (say if the tank or healer dropped) that is now needed for the group so that the dungeon finder can search for replacements.

I like the idea. Though you would basically have to switch to each job and re-queue, to prove you have a high enough iLevel for each. I don't think the game could just take your word on that. Only after you have been "checked" on each job, then you can queue as multiple roles.

Regarding that idea of changing roles if someone in your party drops, I would like that only if there is a vote and the other players agree. I don't want to see a DPS drop, and then have the Tank decide "Oh goodie, I'll be DPS now!"

    ok lets separate the queue system;

As you know currently it will give you a role display. Picture the information constantly changing and wait times changing. A good example is selecting individual raids at once. Raid appears almost full, then switches, almost there, switches. Wildstar somewhat differently, never got into it to be honest reminded me of WOW too much. Played it with friends, we all switched to FFXIV. Do to the inconsistency of party make ups and they don't really check gear wise unlike FFXIV requirements which would also cause more time to properly pair. I'm a programmer and trust me the encoding is easy. The requirements that the system searches for. maintenance, constant problems it can cause is not worth it.

Here is another example; If you have a HHD Hardrive, and cram your operating system, your games, everything in one and have multiple programs running at once its more of stress on it than having an individual dedicated drive for those task.

If you have dedicated drives it would cause less problems of crashing, do to resources being used and require less maintenance.

Now picture doing that for over 1 million players on one server, and cross servers at once. Wonder why FF doesn't have that much black out maintenance like Wildstar does?
