Yes...i guess that is true. However if you have everything 50 what is the max number of kills you will get at one time? Maybe 50 if you are running some raid type. The problem is without a lvl cap raise you would be forced to kill mobs for no reason to get this. Which ....blows.

They received an answer to this subject in the JP forums, if anyone other than Google could translate it correctly ^^

Is it me, or is this just something to keep people "busy". Not really good content, but just "busy" content...I just want to know if I'm the only one who feels this way about the achievements. TBH, on my PS games, I never cared about getting any trophies, I was more concerned with having fun.

I understand that some gear will be given, but will the gear be functional instead of just aesthetics? I wouldn't mind doing achievements if the gear actually has a decent function.

That's a personal perception -- when people look at a game in a negative light in any way they'll immediately think of anything added as 'not actual content'. For example if you view this as "busy content" you can view the moogle fight as "busy content" as well depending on your personal perception on what you find 'good/busy/bad content'. All content in MMOs are considered 'busy content' because they're designed to keep you playing and whether you like it or not is up to personal preference.

TBH, on my PS games, I never cared about getting any trophies, I was more concerned with having fun.
Single player games aren't about achievements, they're nice to have to show off you did x goal but you don't play a game like Saints Row for example because you want an achievement, you play it for the storyline and gameplay because a lot of achievements for offline games are "you completed this story" or "you killed 10 people with a headshot". MMORPG achievements are different, they're treated more as a content type (like quests are considered content) as they reward you, 99% of the time achievements in offline games don't reward you unless the company throws in content that requires you to do x, y, z achievements in order to access it, or they give you a special gun for getting a pistol mastery achievement etc.

Adding the achievements is putting in incentives to complete the content already in place. It's a reward for playing.

In the course of getting these acheivements you will also build a more versetile PC. In addition, a longer history.

I don't much like "grinding content" but all other story related content as well as house building, garden-have, chocobo-raising and large scale changes are in the future.

I think 1.20 will hold me until 1.21 for the most part.

That's all I'm asking for frankly.

I'm actually very pleased that they're taking a cue from other games with the way they're implementing the achievement system. Yes, the interface isn't very flashy, but it honestly matches the UI we have now.

I'm more interested in the setup/content than how it looks.

My concern was that the achievements would only be focused on more endgame feats, but I'm glad to see that's not the case. It's good that there are things people of all levels can work on. Exploration, leveling milestones, battle, crafting, seasonal events, quests, dungeons, and more.

I'm also glad that only the more challenging achievements reward items. I didn't want to see the achievement system turn into a loot pinata.

Some people will always feel that achievements aren't real content, that they are just busy work. But for OCD people like me, it's like a mini-game to collect them all.

After WoW implemented the achievement system, I was never bored again. I always had something to be working on.

Have to say this is one thing I'm actually looking forward to. Good job, SE!

Thought I'd translate what has been said on french forums for people having questions.

Youmukon confirmed that achievements will be retroactive.

Example: if an achievement requires you to have completed 3 quests, then a message will appear directly on your screen confirming that you gained the achievement.

The exception are achievement linked to gear sets. You will have to wear the gbear set and go talk to a NPC. If you had the gear in the past, but don't have it anymore, it won't work.

There are also 3 type of achievements that won't be automatically unlocked:
    - Synthesis: "Do 50 level 1-10 Carpenter synths" types
    - Gathering: "Gather Iron ores 20 times from La Noscea region" type
    - The achievements linked to forbidden materia

    Hope that helps,

    Translation:
Regarding the issue of counts being continued or starting from 1.20, only the data listed below that have not been accumulated prior, will start at the time of 1.20.
    * The data will be collected at the start of 1.20 and not after the unlocking of achievement categories.

    1) Number of synthesis attempts
    2) Number of gathering attempts
    3) Number of successful Forbidden Melding attempts
    4) Armor set collections-related achievements - Such achievements will be completed by equipping the entire set before talking to the NPC. So even if you have collected the set before, but no longer possess it, you will be unable to complete the objectives.

Apart from these, all other category data will be continued from the data prior to 1.20.

    My comments:
    Regarding synthesis, gathering and melding...Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
