Made a stupid error

Hi All,
I am playing basically two roles - Summoner and Black Mage. I was in the Summoner role and tried clearing my inventory by transferring items to Mmy retainer. I guess I must have moved an item equipped on my Black Mage. I believe I retrieve3d the items in question from the retainer and they are now in my inventory. The message I got when I tried to recall my Black Mage was the equipment item(s) are missing and the Black Mage cannot be opened. Does anyone know hoe I shou;ld proceed to try to replace the items n ow missing? I can't open the Black Mage to try replacing the items in my Armory Chest. My Black Mage was at level 50 and completed all the main story quests. I'd hate to have to redo all that!

You need to re equip the black mage normally and then use the update on the section script once its selected. or remove it and re add a new one.,

Thanks fo9r the quick reply. I looked a little more closely and I get the same error message for Thaumaturge and Conjurer. I really don't want to screw this up so I have to impose your knowledge a little more. I am unfamiliar with everything you suggested.
Are you saying that I should delete the set for Black mage? If I do would I be allowed to re-equip it? Again I apologize but I have never dealt with any of these options before.

The error you speak of will only occur if you attempt to equip a class without a matching class weapon in your Armoury Chest.

If you equip a set even though armour/accessories have been shifted off, it will give you a notification, and then equip all items except the now-unavailable items.
If you equip a set even though its weapon is no longer available, it will give you a notification, and then equip another weapon in the Armoury Chest that class can use.
It will only fail if no such weapon is available in the Armoury Chest, as the game uses your weapon to decide your class, and thus wielding no weapon at all will not allow the class switch.

Having weapons in your inventory will Not Work. It must be in the Armoury Chest for the game to use auto-equip on it.

You've already solved your problem manually, but keep this in mind for future reference. It is not necessary to reform a set from zero.

Also for future reference: Equipment pieces that are currently registered in any Gear Set will always have a small note-like icon next to them. Do NOT move any of these pieces to a retainer, convert them to materia or disassemble them. Even if you want to change a piece through all classes, change all of the gear sets first and then remove the piece after it has been first replaced in all sets, or else you risk accidentally entering battle with a piece of equipment missing.
