MrHappy interview with Yoshi-p (Raid boss tiers, set bonuses)

Thought I would toss over a link to this very recent interview done by MrHappy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjQ59oTl4CY

He brings up set bonuses on gear and attempts to clarification on what Eureka will actually end up being. There's a text document in the video description for those who just want to read that.

Thanks for sharing. I feel like we didn't learn anything new sadly, but at least we didn't get poor questions either.

Thank god, they're finally considering set bonuses!!! Easily the best takeaway from any Stormblood-related interview yet, for me.

Yeah, but it seems its only for end-game top-tier raiding. Savage content and such. Can't say I'm too excited about that myself.

Was kind of annoyed about the question with Swimming. I'd think by now we'd had enough questions about it to deduce the answer to the question asked. Like I said, don't feel like we learned a whole lot.

Thanks for sharing! Glad to hear them reconsidering set bonuses. But kind of sad they'd want it to be only for (likely) Savage.

However, we are thinking about adding in mechanics that will add new layers of enjoyment for players through the existing dungeons once again. First, it is likely to become something along the lines of challenging yourself to a dungeon with your adventurer squadron.
    Ew... >_>

Hope it's not only set bonuses, I feel there are a lot of items that could be "legendary" in status that deserve a lore related effect but don't fit into a set. Also I don't see why it should only be for raiders, although I understand the most difficult content would consistently offer the best items, most consistently interesting effects, as a whole (hardest content consistently proves the best rewards, keeping in mind sometimes super grind content like relics competes).

Like if you could obtain Louisoix staff as a BLM, or Tizona as a Paladin (or Blue mage?). The question was phrased with sets in mind so I don't see the answer as disheartening and I agree in a sense that "sets" fit well in the hardest content as a reward (I don't mind the idea the set bonuses is used to encourage people to raid), but I definitely hope he doesn't think ability effects only belong to the hardest content or only to sets (I don't think every item should have an effect either, but not "just" sets). I've had legendary/sets from the hardest content in WoW but even before then I had special effect weapons and armors as I leveled and I /loved/ them then too. They're a lot of fun, and sometimes they can be just plain funny - like a goof item with a goof effect.

The graphical effects would definitely be much easier to add though, set bonuses that is a graphical effect, as you don't really have to balance it and still encourages people to get the whole thing. Also means I would greatly care less if that was high end raid only then, since obviously the "legendary" weapons already do get their own treatment, relics obvious example. Although it is a good point about the glamour issues he made, the only system I think that could please everyone would require SE to basically create a special effect glamour section - at that point I'd just start asking for merit/sphere/talent/gylph aesthetic systems instead (like collecting or leveling up graphical effects, you gather the set and now you've unlocked smokey Dark Knight effect lol). Otherwise there will be a lot of other issues if people don't get high control as it seems Yoshida is very aware of.

If you have two set pieces glamoured that have an effect, does it work even though they are worn but now glamoured? What if you have two items not set pieces but their glamour is set pieces, do the glamour's create a set? If the glamours create a set do they also work with actual items? Meaning you have raid chest and helmet, and you've glamoured onto two other items the raid boots and legs, do you get the 4 set bonus even though two are glamoured and two are not? What if you have two glamoured sets on top of two pieces of gear that make a set themselves? Finally, what if you don't want the effect?

If the effect only works if it's /actually/ equipped I think is the simplest way to address the problem - though I'm sure you'll have people upset that it can't be glamoured into it's "set" appearance, meaning you'll never see it whole and active past the relevant content or people RPing the gear (which isn't horrible, but again may lead to people asking for complications at which point again I'd just suggest it so people get a "special effects book" and they can thereby earn and toggle effects - like getting the Dark Knight raiding set allows you to turn the red grit into black smoke grit).

On number 2 I wish there was more talk on WoW's difficulty system as a whole but at the same time I understand it might have opened the question up too much and gave a non-answer hehe. Like they have the flex system which makes queues faster for the easier content, but they also have the mythic+ as mentioned, with the multiple tiers of difficulty, and other interesting mutations and events, so as a whole I think there is a lot to reference that's good there.

Anyway, thanks for the questions ~

The first question tells you how overworked they're for releasing content for the demands of the players. They really need to slow it down as right now they will be keeping it 4 bosses each time and not anymore or any less so that tells you something on the pressure they're under constantly from management. We're two months almost away from release and no release of changes that will be done to the abilities and it has me concerned on how tight of a schedule they're working in order to get this stuff released.
