Nostalcoila - Lets appreciate the raids and share good, (old), stories!

    Hello everyone

Recently I saw a lot of threads in regards to "Please nerfy Coil Turn X!" and we got to hear a lot of "horror stories" about people complaining that they cant clear those old raids because they're still a challenge!
Now, I hope I'm not the only who says "Great, I like a good challenge!" - and I thought "Wouldnt it be nice to see apperiaction for those raids reflected in some way"?

So the purpose of this thread shall be: Share your raid-stories! Now with Stormblood around the corner, its time to take a little break - lets sit down at our imaginary bonfire and tell stories about the old days when we slaughtered might beasts!
Whats your best memory from raiding? Which raid did you like best? Which made the most problems? Did you ever jumped into a wall? (And if you say didnt: are you lying or just never played a bard/dragoon?)

Lets not forget the gobbies too! Alexander or Bahamut - who ate more of your evenings? And obviously: Mide or Alisaie? Or the little gobby-girl in the end...?

No matter wether you did this content world first or just last week - wether you did it at minimum ilvl or unsyched - lets just remember it together and set a more positive tone to it than "Please nerf!"

I've never set foot in the Coil. There never seemed to be much point by the time I reached that stage in the game and everything I've seen and read has encouraged me to stay far away. I did thoroughly enjoy Alexander however.

So long as one person knows vaguely what they're doing you can unsync your way through coil start to finish in an evening these days. It's nice to do it once if you're into the story and lore.

Best T9 strat ever: the 4 who've never done it go die on the firewall so the 4 who have can do meteors.

I never originally bothered with Coil as I don't have enough friends to form a group of 8 and didn't want to do the hard fights with random hyper-skilled people from PF (I'm on a JP server so it's hard to find fellow bad players - even the people who say they suck tend to be great). So shortly after HW came out and the 'undersized/unsynced' option arrived my group decided to try it as a group of 5 instead. We all wiped to the ADS at the start of turn 1 the first time we did it around level 50, which was sort of embarrassing as we thought the lack of sync would make it really easy. Ha.

Anyway, we went back when our gear was slightly less terrible but still bad enough to make wiping incredibly easy, and we managed to battle through an incredibly fun and epic version of the entire raid (eventually) where our enhanced survivability - we were level 60 and at around ilevel 150 by the final turn, several months after we started - was offset by the fact we only had one healer and nobody was actually all that strong. We wiped hundreds of times and spent a fortune in repairs, and we didn't watch any videos so we kept arguing about the best way to do the new mechanics in each fight between every Coil Night. And sometimes we had to do mechanics in strange ways to compensate for the small number of people, which made it extra funny.

I almost had a heart attack healing some of those turns. Bennu still gives me nightmares. It's a shame that our ilevel has increased a lot since those days; if we go back now most of the fights are trivially easy. We're going to try the lot again soon unsynced at minimum ilevel once our newest friend is ready to start.

As for Alexander... we want to try doing it the same way as Coil because we all had so much fun, so I've never set foot inside it! If they would let us go into raids undersized (but not unsynced) for current content, we would have already been filling the pockets of repair NPCs across Eorzea for months.

Oooh, that sounds like an awesome lot of fun and a great way to deal with that content, Serilda! Running it completly blind and by yourself must have been amazing, I envy you a little! Thanks for sharing! Its great to hear that people enjoy doing this content blind and with friends to challenge themself a little!

My static back then would always make the deal that we'd do one hour of blind wiping, see how far we get and for next raid day everyone looked at a guide/saw a video. When we had people with us who already knew the content, they were told to keep their mouth shut - I remember T12 when our dragoon had already cleared it and was helping the seven of us out. We were trying to figure otu mechanics and discussing them - some of our intial guesses were terrible and he finally had to mute his mic because he was just laughing so much.
