God forbid SE should spend hundreds of thousands of £/$ etc to improve the vast majority of players gameplay, not once, but twice, but because you chose not to take them up on that kind outlay, that they should then choose not to plough more money into transferring those people for free that CHOSE from the beginning not to play on a server that was TAGGED AS BEING THEIR REGION.

    Entitled much?

Choices have consequences, you made your choice, these are the consequences. Stop belly aching because SE aren't bending over to help you overturn those choices at their cost.

EU players never got free transfers. Only NA players did. There was the choice of stay where we are or pay money to transfer while everyone else gets freebies. So much for bending over.

My EU friends got the free transfer option when we moved from a Chaos server to Aether server.

Well, that then wasn't advertised, as this was the announcement: http://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...447.1443077166

    * The free World transfer service will not apply to characters moved from the Elemental, Gaia, Mana, Aether, or Primal data centers to the Chaos data center.

    EDIT: Ok, misread your post.
Chaos is EU, Aether is NA. There were transfers from Chaos to Aether, and not to Chaos. So, EU players never got free transfers to the EU servers.

Following the reasons given for the previous free transfer when a datacenter moved :
Because the Chaos data center is being relocated, certain players may find they are no longer playing on a desirable World. In order to address this issue, players will be allowed to transfer from Worlds within the Chaos data center to Worlds within the Elemental, Gaia, Mana, Aether, or Primal data centers free of charge for one week.

Residents in the North American region playing on the Chaos data center may begin to experience issues with latency after the transition. We ask that you try the game after the transfer, and if you experience connectivity issues disruptive to gameplay, consider using the free World transfer service while it is available.
the same reasons can be applied to this datacenter move, and I don't see anything that makes this transfer different than the previous one, as long as it always is a datacenter being relocated.

It is not that a datacenter moves every day, and to give here a free transfer option too, isn't unreasonable. If SE afraid to lose the income from people jumping the free service for other reasons, they just have to put rules for it in order to make the service available to who really have issues with the move.

And after saying the above, no, I'll not agree with the OP, because his post is contradicting itself: he want play with friends but complain about no free transfer, but transfer means no more his friends. Unless they all were EU but made the very bad choice of playing on NA servers.

And no, as long as EU datacenter were moved in EU, I don't feel being 3rd rate. If I have to get a feel, it maybe is some envy against NA players that in previous relocation they done the same poor choice to play in EU servers, but got a free server jump anyway.

The thing that makes it different is the EU servers were located in NA and then moving move to a different region a actual EU location. With this the NA data center just being moved to different part of NA staying in the same region.

what has the region to do with the connection? the actual distance to the data center is what matters, and yoshi himself said:

so he knows this will affect EU players not for the better. so why no free transfer?

    edit:

i also want to point out that, regarding to the topic "EU Confirmed as 3rd Rate Customer", NA players (wich are 2nd Rate Customers behind JP, wich is also not okay) again get the campaign for the DLC items before the EU players. you know, the maid/butler and fat white chocobo and now the eastern stuff and cloud mount.

I don't think SE necessarily views EU players as third-class customers; I just think they have bad policies in general, and sometimes they're worse than others.

I mean, really, anytime a data centre is moved, everyone (not just players on the affected worlds) should get a free transfer opportunity. I'm sure there are plenty of players on the Japanese data centres who would prefer a location in the central US, which hasn't existed up until now. Why not do them the courtesy of letting them shuffle for free? It can't possibly be much work for SE to handle.

Similarly, this long downtime that's planned for the launch of Stormblood - why isn't it reimbursed in full? Or any maintenance time in general? Lord knows the standard 8 hour maintenance windows for SE wouldn't cost them that much money. But, again, they don't care, because they don't have to.

All this to say, SE has never been known for good customer service, and what little they've provided hasn't aged all that well, in my estimation. Yes, in this case, European players are definitely getting shafted, and yes, US players weren't quite so shafted during the last data centre shuffling - but I think this is just an example of SE being 'extra bad' and 'bad', more than anything else.

Why do you think it will e more ping? I am hoping it is less for no matter where you live. Also a lot of lag exists on the server end, as it seems they are programmed to intentionally process information at slow rates with some delay in an attempt to have it playable with large pings. In the end it only makes things worse.
