I never use the "default" keys either, even tho there's nothing wrong with me, besides my hands are being small and I can't reach most of the keys if I would stick with the regular setup. while I re configurated some of my keys to the numblock, I decided a couple of years ago to buy a gaming mouse. Best decision I've ever made, started with a razer naga and switched to a logitech G600. Now all I gotta do is lean back and press the 20 buttons on my mouse lol.

To the UI configuration being a block, you can press K in the game (if on pc) or go under character configuration -> hotbar settings -> make sure "hide unassigned slots" is marked -> scroll down and chose 12x1 -> pick all the hotbars you want and apply -> close

Now open your hud layout and move the bars underneath each other. apply and close. Put all the skills in the hotbar that you want or items etc. and every slot that isn't used will be invisible.

Example, place skill A on 1, skill B on 2, skill C on the first slot in the bar above, Skill D next to it. Now slot 3-12 will be empty (but invisible) in both bars and it will look like a block. You can customize your hotbars the way you want at anytime under the hud layout screen. Hope it helps.

I can't help you with a mouse or controller but I do know how you can get your hotbars into 3 by 4 blocks.

First go to System. Choose Character Configuration. Click on the Display button on the upper left. Now, drop down to Hotbar Settings. The icon looks kind of like two block, diagonal crosses. It's the second from the bottom.

There you go! There are all your options, including how you want each bar displayed.

    Hope this helps.

Oh! I shake too. My doctor has me on a medicine (requip) for it but he also suggested I start drinking tonic water with quinine. It works! You may wish to try it yourself.

For what it's worth my wife swapped from keyboard/mouse to controller for medical reasons and it did not take her long to adapt at all. I hope you find a method which works for you - but please don't be too concerned about trying controller out! I am full time controller normally but at events I use keyboard/mouse (it's too hard to reproduce my weird controller setup on a time limit) and even with my weak skills I can adjust surprisingly quickly.

As a PS4 player I can't give accurate or potentionally helpful advice in regard's to PS versions of FF14 (AS all PC players I've meet believe Mouse/keyboard is the end-all king) but does PC have the option of using the "Keyboard" built in version of some PS4/Xbox controllers? (as in can use it as a "controller" for the Cross-hotbar system while still using the built-in "keyboard" for the keybind's)... I know probable dumb idea but I had to add the possiblity of another option

Only mentioned that "Idea" as I use my PS4 controller for my time on PC Overwatch, as I kept getting hand pain after 2-3 games but don't with a controller (less hand pain for a drop in accuracy seamed worth it). Also Grats on being one of the oldest players I've ever seen playing a modern game, glad u enjoy u'r hobby

What some see as "distracted" is really "fathoming the unfathomable" - last words from an Ul'dahn Mercurial Chemister at the battle of Carteneau

Have you seen the gp about the tremors? Depending on the cause there may be other solutions out there as well.

I use razer orbweaver and razer naga. Got everything I need within reach.

I bought both of those specifically for FFXIV gaming.

Not for long. Early days of mmos were in the early 90s which in and of itself was almost 30 years ago. Plenty of 40 year olds play today. Its not his age thats incredible its that he has stayed with it so long.

I'm only 30 and suffer from essential tremor. When I get very excited, frustrated, or paniced my hands and fingers will start shaking. Neck shakes rarely when I'm nervous.

The only way I've found to cope with this is by playing with a PS4 controller isntead of playing with a keyboard. The weight of holding the ps4 controller and holding it with both hands severely lowers the annoyance of the shakes. It might take some getting used to coming from a keyboard but if you give it a try, I bet it will help you out as much as it does me.

Edit: I use PS4 controller on PC with DS4 app.

I would also recommend Razer's Naga and such as they can remove the stress from the hand used to press keybinds on the keyboard.

Otherwise, when it comes to number from 1 to = etc, do you use buttons like Q, E, R, Z, X, C? I rebound, for example, character panel to shift + C to be able to use C for an ability, but that's mostly because I have small hands and my max reach is 4 if I use WASD for moving. I also utilize those buttons, for example shit + D is my resurrection keybind.

A multibutton mouse or controller appear to be the way to go. Luckily since you only started recently the learning curve won't be too bad since you haven't been overloaded with abilities yet since your highest level is only 30. That way you can grow with using the controller and learning your new abilities.
