    Positional Lines on mob hitboxes

I just threw this together for another thread but figured I might post it in the ui forum as a possible suggestion..

would it be possible to add little indicators to the mob hit boxes to mark positional dividers. something like this.

picture is quite poor I admit but I think the idea is pretty sound. would make it a bit easier for melee dps to judge positionals because it would indicate exactly where the flank ended and the rear began kinda thing..

But the hitboxes have this divider for rear/flank, it is where the circle transfers from double to single lined...that is the divider for rear/flank...single lined = rear; double lined = flank...This is the point every melee with positionals should circle around.

We already have them, in a very clear fashion. Single ring for flank and double ring for the rest. The only case this might leave for confusion is if tanking on a positional class, but you're not going to get an accurate read on its angle anyways at that point, even if playing at sub-20 ms ping. (In which case, stand infinitely close to center, and then hit W and then the skill in rapid succession to pass through for the backstrike. Delay between the move and hit for a quarter second if you want flank, or move at a diagonal with the same immediacy between. What you see is not what you're getting. Just train yourself via when you see the bonus vs. not.)

These spots are already represented clearly in game:

Anything outside of those two small circles is irrelevant. If you're not allowed to hit the target from the rear (i.e., because of directional parry/counter), stand in the little yellow Flank section. If you're not allowed to hit the target from the flank, stand in the red Rear section.

If you're hitting it from the front, it's because you're not allowed to hit it from the flank or the rear, in which case just stand on the Facing pointer with the rest of the party.

not always the case I find. there are occasions where o often feel I could squeeze in a flank attack instead of a frontal one.. maybe not many but some... I sometimes wonder when I'm teathered to the tank in zurvan during broken seal would that one step outside or to the very edge my circle let me land an armor crush at higher potency instead of a dancing edge... is that 46% or just 40...

admit it's minor but it could still result in a dps increase.. and some times various mechanics restrict your positioning but might possibly allow you to squeeze in just enough to land a flank hit.. some of those fights that drop endless puddles on the floor for example...

admittedly there's not a lot of occasions where such things can happen but there's certainly a few..

    Do have a question though.

How did you get the hit box that colour?
that's so much clearer than the faint blueish one I have. it's almost impossible to see at all a lot of the time. maybe that's why I've never noticed the lines

Oh, I hadn't considered that you might not be able to read the target circle appropriately because of its color; I changed the colors back in 2.0 beta4/earlyaccess. That's a good question.

The target's nameplate color will affect the the target "dagger-shaped" pointer, the focus target "dagger sheath" pointer, the target health bar, focus target healthbar, and the target circle. Personally, I like "Unengaged Enemies" and "Unclaimed Enemies" to be a light yellow, "Engaged Enemies" to be red, and "Claimed Enemies" to be a sort of fuschia; but of course all that matters is that it's a color scheme that you can see clearly on various terrains / floors.

Thank you so much for that. I had found the options to turn hit boxes and targeting lines and stuff on and off but never an option to actually change the colours.

Makes them so much easier to see..

Weird. I've been playing this game for years now, and the only times I ever noticed that break in the circle I'd just thought it was partially obscured by terrain. LOL. Thanks for pointing it out.

I still think it could be clearer, though. The presence of lines delineating the four sides, like Dzan's diagram showed, might be more clearly recognizable as an indicator than the circle simply fading out for a bit then starting up again. Plus, I'd like to see the distinction point between front and flank shown as well.

Yeah, this is the kind of thing that melees should be taught and forced to execute properly in their class quests. This isn't really explained anywhere ingame as far as I'm aware.
