Grade 5 Carbonized Matter

Could someone please tell me where or how to find Grade 5 Carbonized Matter?

My gathering log says I have acquired it, but it was long ago and probably by chance since I've never aimed to gather it until now.

I've managed to use Luck of the Pioneer on several nodes in Voor Sian Siran, the Smoldering Wastes, and the Chocobo Forest, but every time I use it I get a message saying that I have already uncovered all the node's hidden items.

Am I looking in the wrong places even though my log says it should be there? Or am I doing something else wrong?

its a somewhat rare hidden item on lvl60 nodes (i'm fairly shure its not unspoiled nodes), so just keep going at them

yea, I've had them rarely appear on Birch Trees and Aurum Regis Sands, among other nodes. Not at all common to see them, but if you need them on a more consistent basis and don't want to use the MB, check Bertana in Idyllshire, she'll trade you 3x grade 5 carbons for 1x Unidentified Shell or Ore, which you can get from HW Treasure maps, among other places.

some are in hidden or or folklore nodes from what I've gotten. They are also pretty cheap in MB as well.

Luck/Toil of the Pioneer only works for items that you find in unspoiled and legendary nodes; by using it, it removes the need to hit the node in whichever slot your item is in to actually see and gather it. It does not reveal any Hidden or Rare/Hidden items in regular nodes.

I have usually found Grade 5 Carbonized matter in level 60 unspoiled nodes; just from back when I was gathering for the achievements; they seem more common in those nodes compared to just the regular 60 nodes. However, it is random if you find it or not, so if you're going to go hunting for them in unspoiled nodes, try to pick ones where you can at least use one of the items from the node (such as Abalathian Rock Salt from the 12am / 12pm node in Sea of Clouds). These nodes are what you want to use Luck/Toil of the Pioneer on, rather than hit slots and hope you find it in one.

Here's the GamerEscape page, which has a list of some nodes you may find it in. If you come across one in regular nodes, use your +2 yield skil (Blessed Harvest II (BOT); can't for the life of me remember what the MIN equivalent is, but the skill is 500 GP) as well as your +5% gathering rate, as they cap at 95%, and it's annoying to hit the node three times and gather nothing (RNG; gotta love it). That will give you a minimum of 12 per node, more if you find it in one with +1 or +2 gathering attempts.

You can find it in the MB, but prices will vary by server. Mine tends to only have stacks of 99, and I usually only need 1 or 2, so I go hunting for them instead.

Grade 5 carbonized matter is Rare/Hidden, which means like certain seeds and ores, it's total RNG that it'll even show up on qualifying nodes.

When it does, you want to take advantage. Keep in mind that if it shows up, and you don't have at least 550 GP, sheathe your tool and let your GP build or use a cordial. That way you can get the gathering rate up to 100% and use Blessed Harvest/Bountiful Yield II. Unlike unspoiled nodes, the node and carbonized matter won't disappear by canceling.

I believe they do show up with unspoiled nodes as well, but you might want to consider passing them up depending on what you were initially after.

Thank you, everyone. I managed to find some at a level 60 node while gathering aurum regis sand and getting Luck of the Mountaineer to activate. It's not always available at these nodes, and just extremely rare. ^^;
