A Crazy Solution To The Growing Problems of Inadequate Preparation For Duties.

Problem: There are concerns in the community that there is a lack of players' understanding of the skills they gain during their journey in Eorzea.

Weird: Job Quest - What I mean by this is that, we have a job quest system in which it reward us with skills but we have no idea when or how to utilize the skill effectively as the job quest usually do not require us to use them or teaches how to use them.

Suggestion/Solution: In the Job Quest, there is a section where the quest teaches us how and when to use the skills. This is NOT A NEW CONCEPTS. I created this post NOT TO INTRODUCE A NEW CONCEPT but to ENCOURAGED A CURRENT EXISTING overlooked concept.

Current Existed Example: After you unlock Ninja and getting your first Ninjutsu, the Job Quest actually require you to use your skill and allow you to familiarized yourself with it. Then you were put to the test to see if you are proficient at using it. Please, why was this not the new standard for Job Quest, especially with the release of Heavensward? Getting new skills and then having a training ground to test it out is a fantastic idea to all types of player.

New Non-Existed Example: Paladin's Flash or Dark Knight's Unleashed or Warrior's Overpower. Just create an instant where it require the player to cast them on a group of monster as a way to demonstrate when and how to use the skills usually. I do not know how the programming and System work on the FF14's Client and Engine so it is just an example of one of the things Square Enix can do.

Conflicts From Suggestion/Solution: As with any content, there will be frustration at being unable to complete the Job Quest. Which might lead to players to completely ignore Job Quests due to various reasons like its a little difficult or too much of a hassle. For this, I suggest you require the Job Quest Story to be finish to be able to access certain encounter in addition to whatever else requirement that already going to be set. For example, you need to finish the level 60(or 70 in the future) Job Quest to be able to go into Expert Dungeon/Roulette and/or 24-man Raid content. Because in my opinion, to be able to be qualifies to do those content that is consider to be "End-Game" You should at least understand what your skills do, you don't have to be good/great at it, just know what they do is enough.

Overall, just a crazy suggestion (I sincerely apologize for my bad grammars and structure).

I'm going to say this. About 95% of the players in the roulette know how to play their class and role. Funny thing is, even half the 'newbies' you see.. you know the ones that give you bonus tomestones are veterans on alts. The players that do not know what they are doing form a very small percentage. Out of that percentage most of them do not join groups because of that limitation.

So what's the real problem? Laziness.

Why does a DPS need to do a full rotation when the tank, other DPS, and likely healer will easily make up for it?
Why does a tank need to do a full rotation to put out any DPS when there are two others that will carry it. Or move out of AOE when a healer will keep them alive?
Why does a healer need to pay much attention when likely the others will be geared enough to snooze through it?

I've done quite a few roulette in the last month. Gearing up a few classes and see the issue from multiple angles. I've yet to see a player who doesn't know what they are doing in the Duty Finder outside the Leveling Roulette (and even then its only because someone might be learning pulls, playing a class in Sastasha is literally 1-2). Occasionally I get someone who hasn't done a fight before. But they know their class well enough.

From time to time I get a player who exibits issues like you all bring up in repost after repost. But usually a quick chiding gets them to play properly. Those that don't get booted. Seriously people, just use the vote kick. The devs gave you a tool, use it. Stop being a lazy player yourself. You're no different than the players you complain about.

Maybe players like the OP should be forced into a Solo Duty where they have to pick the NPC that is slacking off to be vote kicked. Because apparently that's function that eludes everyone these days.

Yes, a million times yes. This is one of my gripes I bring up every now and then. This game does not teach us how to use our skills. 1st time players of MMOs might struggle because of this. Novice network and that training they added are not that good. The training itself is only up to level 15 skills. Novice network is just a glorified chat line.

Even though we can read what the skills do, it's just best to give a demonstration. Show us how to stun, silence, DoT, buff, etc. properly. It may be babying, but in some cases it's needed. There are some truly green players out there. I was one of them and the struggle was real and I started as a tank which was bad news to any party I was in.

    Pfff. That's not crazy.

Crazy would be letting Ragtime Mouse assault unsuspecting players to ask them a question about their skills or rotation, then kill them in an overly dramatic way if they answer wrong.

Your dea is based on a false assumption that bad players want to be better. The truly bad, are bad because they don't want to improve and no amount of spoon feeding will change that. It is a symptom of laziness and as long as dungeons are designed for the worst of the worst, they will be painful for pugs. There is no way to address the bads that wont encourage them to quit the game and cut into profits. The only thing you can do, is when you are fed up with it, put up a party finder or seek fc help.

Real crazy would be looking at what older MMORPGs did right to not have this problem.

Older MMO's suffered from this problem too, people underperfoming is nothing new. However, back then communities where smaller and more "brutal" so you could become a paria in a server and almost no one will party up with you.

Yeah, you needed to have some sense to progress to the high content, not to mention that the punishment for failing was rather harsh.

However I think that modern MMORPGs are fundamentally broken. Difficulty is all over the place, the game always makes groups for you and to make things worse, rather than your character (stats, gear, class, abilities learned, etc) the focus now is on how well you can dial phone numbers which is impossible to teach someone.

No amount of quest tutorials will teach you how to perform your rotation... its just impossible
