Pretty bad examples of yours. Chess is a complete game...and a boardgame. If you want to compare stuff, then compare 2 things of the same type.

So lemme "convert" FFXIV to a similar chess situation...now you have a chess with just peons because the board owner found the other pieces movements too complex for that game...and the board owner already told you that he will charge you every time you play with his board.

So yes, you probably are in one of the 2 situations i said before regarding those who like the game...or maybe in both of them.

Actually, I could be comparing it to what I think about the color of the sky, it doesn't make any difference at all. WHat people do and don't like is completely subjective, and since your not in charge of anyones thoughts or feelings but your own, you don't get to determine for anyone but yourself what you do and don't like. Pretty sure thats what the rest of us like to call "free will". If someone likes the game in its current state, and believe me some actually do, who the hell are you to tell them to feel otherwise? No one says YOU have to like it, but you certainly don't get to tell anyone else what they SHOULD like.

I think people are over-exaggerating the impact of ps3 release without any basis on reality.

Reality check:

All console MMO's that are released on PC and consoles have a PC gamer population that FAR outweighs the minor console community.

Phantasy Star Universe, Final Fantasy XI, DC Universe and so on. We've seen the same happen on all consoles but still majority of the players in here seem convinced that population will somehow skyrocket when the ps3 release comes. By that time this game has already lost it's "newness" and you know that bad-game stigma that was imprinted on this game at launch? It's still there.

So what is it that makes you think people will rush to the stores to get this game on ps3?

I'm sure many of the current players will like myself but I don't see that day marking end to low-pop gaming if this keeps up.

By the way when you start playing an MMO don't you go to the forums to see if that particular game has a healthy population? Well I do. Merging servers would only be a good thing.

im on one of the lowest population server and its always full of people doing stuff, right now everyone is crafting so a merge wont help. your probly gonna quit anyways when the payment is due.

No, you can't. It would be incredibly idiotic to merge servers when you're only going to create new ones again a year later once 2.0 and PS3 comes out.

It's incredibly idiotic to not merge servers, 2.0 is pretty much a year a way. Even if they only lost a meager amount of people come charge time the need is there even at this point in time. Your line of thinking is if they are making new servers in a year why merge them now? A year is pretty long time and server population is going to drop and whether or not it is a small drop or big drop the servers in their current state could use a merger. So how is this a bad idea in any way? Make majority of the fans happy by having more lively servers?

The ship as you say, may have sailed but unless I've missed a memo the media isn't stagnant they can easily influence people long after the fact, this is why things like hype exists, because it something that will happen long after an initial outlet gives info.

You really can't say for a second that there will be no negative reactions toward SE and FFXIV if sites like Gamespot or other major gaming websites announces that SE is merging XIV servers right as they start charging, I believe the saying is "kicking a dog while it's down" -- It is entirely possible to make matters worse, which it seems people who are in support of this don't realize it has a double sided effect.

If you don't like negative hype, you should have been more vocal against SE bringing up subscription fees at a time when the game isn't 100% (but instead you seemed to enjoy bullying people into leaving because they didn't want to pay full price), because really, that's going to be what the media is going to use to kill this game. Anything that happens after that really doesn't matter anymore. The damage is already done. It already looks bad. Is it really going to surprise anyone that servers may merge? Is anyone even going to keep beating the horse they've freshly killed?

So, all that's left is pleasing the die-hard players who are staying, because they're really all that's left. The only cavalry-over-the-hill FFXIV has in waiting is 2.0. So you may as well make 1.0 as comfortable as possible, bring the remaining players together, and not worry anymore about an already spoiled reputation in the media.
