Didn't yoshi use "Charm" as an example of CORE mage crowd control?

I really hope that a mage class or a pet class can specialize in crowd control tactics. I am really disappointed in our current crowd control abilities, they are limited at best and useless at worst. And I of course mean where it counts: Endgame. Sure sleep and bind work on most regualr mobs but there are certain situations with NMs where better (or in some cases any) crowd control would be handy. A good example is Dodores. My LS can easily beat Dodores, as Im sure most can. However, I find it silly that you cant use sleep as a tactic for crowd control on the Dodore's Minions. Dont get me wrong, im not asking for some super low recast timer that makes it where 1 player can solo Dodores with sleep >> nuke >> sleep. But being able to sleep the 3 adds if you had 3 mages wouldnt break the game. And dont get me started on the weak durration of shadowbind on NMs. I guess I just want more options besides zerging or having multiple tanks.

I know this is a weird choice, but I'd say thief or pet jobs. Yeah, I get that we all want another caster. I would probably have it to 50 ASAP, while I'd never touch THF-like classes or pet jobs. But they're really just missing. I want to see daggers spinning at quick speeds, rather than a choice between swords, shields, axes, and lances. With the exception of DoTs, there is enough to cover ranged DD and debuffing. If any new mage should come about, it needs to be less like the existing mages.
That said, why couldn't we kill two birds at once and create summoner, as opposed to a pet OR magic job? =D

Musketeer and Arcanist.
You know, those two classes that were supposed to be in release and then never were... Would make sense for Arcanist to get the water spells and enfeebles now

Musketeer could possibly double as a mage class if they have magic bullets....or we could give a hybrid class in this game and bring back a well-balanced Red Mage through fencer. And for most of the jerks from XI if Red Mage does come out...I'ma use my god dang sword. XP

My vote would be firstly for a pet class, caster secondly, and thief third.
RDM is my all-time favorite job, but I'd still prefer a pet class first and foremost.
And if they put kittens in the game as a new mob, I'll kill 100 of them regardless.
o.O

I believe Red-Mage (The originals not XI) had skills from Wht mage and blk mage up to Magic lvl 5. Red mages also used Swords/Dagger/Rod swords were the strongest which fits my taste anyway. But they had enfeebling and buffs.(Oh how I miss Temper and Haste together) By having so many skills to their disposal they'd be able to increase their attack power and speed as well as teammates. They could also do magical damage if necessary or heal and set up defensive buffs. XI made them to whimpy with weapons though.
If they make it in this game I want it to be more like the earlier FF with refresh and fast cast added to them lol.

Good old redmage, we were gods among other jobs now we are well cheap knock off.
give me my true redmage back.
given that i would go with a pet class first then mage. smn probable out of the question from what they said. beastmaster or puppetmaster would be the only choice realy. and no i would want a necro

Pet Class......

Hello, old thread. Nice to see you again.
If I had my choice, I'd want them to finally put in the missing classes that were supposed to be there at launch: Musketeer and Arcanist (Especially Musketeer).
But I know that probably won't happen so caster/pet hybrid class would be my pick. Summoner to be more precise.
