I prefer a caster since there are only 2 DoM vs 5 DoW, unless the pet class ends up being a DoM. Either way one of those two would be better than another DoW.

Now that I think about it, I'm leaning towards a pet class more since the game doesn't have that type of play yet. Diversity is what makes a class/job system more fun and interesting.
Pet class it is!
Im not a mage but i would like to see Yoshi-P sticking with his original plan of adding a caster.
I believe if there was one more caster then they could get away with releasing it in patch 1.22 or patch 1.23 then the others at 2.0. (If any at all)
Keeping in mind that 2.0 is a rebirth and not an expansion... we may not get anything at re-launch.

Rather have 2 to 3 different types of classes at the same time, otherwise its gonna look pretty ridiculous with everyone you come across levelling the same class, FF11 had this right, you had jobs released in threes or in a pair.
Yoshida is discussing the third FINAL FANTASY XIV Player's Poll.

Of the below "classes" that will be implemented, which do you prefer?
Scout-type class (Thief, etc.)
Caster class (Ranged DD and Debuff)
Pet class (Pet user and Debuff)
I think it would be good to hear feedback on this type of stuff.
Of course, we need to keep battle balance in mind, so whether we can really implement 100% of what is in the survey is a separate problem. However, we would really like to hear feedback that we can use for our long term plans.
I play both melee and mage classes, so I enjoy all 3 options listed by Yoshida-san, but given that there are only *2* Mage Classes in the game right now (compared with 5 Disciples of War), I vote for:
1. Caster class (Ranged DD and Debuff)
2. Pet class (Pet user and Debuff)
However, if the Pet Class / Job = SUMMONER (召喚士), then I'd vote to see Summoner in the game first.![]()
Either of those 2 would be great for the game and provide more variety.![]()

PET. I WISH TO COMMAND MINIONS. It's about time I have something in game to do my bidding/bend to my will/make my bitch.
Pet.
I loved the way SMN was set up in XI, there were a LOT of different ways to play it and I loved having that flexibility.
That, and I miss Carbuncle D:
1. Caster (as there's currently only two)
2. Scout, especially if the class would be thief and the job would be ninja
3. Pet class; I did respect the role they played in XI but just weren't fun to play IMO
This game is not WoW; if you want WoW, go play WoW. If you get butthurt when people mention Final Fantasy XI, then shut up about WoW.As much as it might hurt you, and as much as someone else brings the balance issues up, FFXI had the jobs right. And, you know, this is a FF, and I don't see you guys complaining about people asking for WoW things. So please.
Also, it's not like this dev team is being true to the roots of the jobs anyway.
you bring up a really good point! I remember though even when 3 jobs came out when trying to make a pt I'd just see all 3 of those jobs seeking lol
caster class is needed most.
