Why no Xbox?

I wouldn't even be against a private server at this point. Honestly the Xbox server would likely be very small, hypothetically speaking that is, given the game would be released in 4.0 if they did bring it over. But being on a private server would have some benefits, wouldn't have a need for 3rd party chat support, the servers would likely be very community driven, since they wouldn't be able to just jump off to a new server.

I think their short sightedness in requiring PSN and SE accounts to be linked is also an issue with adding additional service options (xbox, nintendo).

I'm not sure what you mean by this. The linkage is simply for license checking and posting in the PSN ID on your search information it has no impact on whether any other game system can be involved with FFXIV, where do you even come up with that idea from?

PSN itself is free, it's required for basic license checking to ensure that the games you buy digitally are correctly licensed. When you buy a PS4, it connects to PSn for things like PS Store downloads and firmware updates, and you pay nothing to sign up on PSN, it's 100% free. On the other hand, PS Plus is not free and I think it is the thing you're thinking of. PS Plus is the equivalent of XBL Gold membership, PS Plus is needed for online play unless a developer does as SE has and provides all the servers and service themselves. You had to pay for PS Plus to play Horizon an Nier, but then neither of them are subscription games, they are free once you buy the game. It's a completely different case. FFXIV is subscription based which you pay to SE. You do in fact pay exactly nothing to Sony in order to play FFXIV, beyond purchasing the console and the royalties from the original game purchase of course.

I can't see why or how you think Xbox players would voluntarily segregate themselves either, the point of adding Xbox would be to allow Xbox gamers to play FFXIV with their friends whatever client their friends use. Private servers negate that.

Your comment about finding dead servers makes me laugh as well, the point of adding more users to an online game is to add life, your comments suggest to me that you'd rather we all segregate into niche servers which then fade and die.

Well to be honest anything short of the Scorpio I wouldn't want ff14 on it it would be another ps3 holding us back situation cas sorry to say wile the xbox one is a nice system it's not quite on ps4 lvl till Scorpio launches heck the switch plays games better than the xbox one atleast it plays in 1080p when docked insted of 920p like the xbox one

Xbox servers... community driven? If I'd had pop in my mouth at the moment I read that my PC would have got a mouthful of cream soda over it. The Xbox community is anything but community-driven. Since Beam got direct streaming off Xbox One and access to Beam from the Xbox One, the site has turned 100x more toxic. Trust me, they're not community driven.

I find hilarity in that, I really do, it's almost as if you're saying psn/pc doesn't have trolls? Remember when psn rolled out communities for games and you could only find ones that advertised selling gta modded accounts and camwhores selling their services? Or remember in TF2 payers would spray swatisgas and massive ballsacks everywhere? Cause I sure do.

I can give you a news flash when XBL first came out, one of the original games for it, which also happened to be the first game I played on Xbox was Phantasy Star Online Episode 1 and 2, the community for that game worked tirelessly to keep that game alive, even went as far as find ways though modding to bring over all the GameCube and Dreamcast items Sega refused to patch in to the game. That game lasted 7 years thanks to people who kept trying to mod new items into the game alone after Sega left it to die.

I didn't say they would segregate, I said I wouldn't care if they played on their own. Recall when ARR released, SE released new servers to go with the PS4 release, Jenova, my server, was one of them, and at the time of release Jenova had a very large amount of PS4 players and it does some what maintain that. If hypothetically speaking 14 released on Xbox for 4.0, the NA servers that already can't support new players are:

Balmung
Behemoth
Diabolos
Excalibur
Exodus
Gilgamesh
Hyperion
Lamia
Leviathan
Malboro

That leaves all mid to low populated servers open, the logical thing for SE to do in this situation, would be to send Xbox players directly to a low server, Zalera and Mateus ring a bell immediately. That way these servers would be on par with the mid servers, thus becoming the unofficial Xbox servers. We already have niche servers anyway, again look no further than Balmung and Gilgamesh, two of the biggest servers, one populated vastly by people who RP and the other populated by people who think they will become a raider simply by being there.

As far as Xbox players not adding anything to the game, other than this being purely my opinion, outside of a population bump, they would be starting out in 4.0, again hypothetically speaking, meaning in order for those players to fully be able to catch up to 4.0, they'd need jump potions and this is going off into a different topic, or SE would need to somehow create a Xbox exclusive where 4.0 is the Xbox base game. Either way unless they're granted immediate access to 4.0 or able to skip the entire game we've all played, Xbox players would seemingly be so far behind in content, it wouldn't really seem like they're here.

Not this again. Of course there is no real technical reason, but still the policies order the publishers to ask wether they are allowed to do crossplay or not. In some cases they are and in some like the chess game i posted earlier they aren't, because if you look at their site today, then you would see no cross play for ps4 is allowed at the moment.

Some developers use their own server to run their games and still have to go over PS+. because this is about policies from Sony and nothing else. F2P and monthly sub based MMO are free. Simple as that. Which is great by the way, because microsoft for example isn't consumer friendly in this case and requires gold no matter what.

Those days of the Xbox community being lovely and helpful are long gone. And do you want to know something, the toxicity from that Xbox community (alongside League of Legends) has also caused me to become a toxic person to an extent, the toxic behaviour of the Xbox community at large is that pervasive.

But again you're assuming that Xbox is more toxic than Ps4 and pc. I've played on Xbox since the original launch and know very well that there are players on the service that are idiots. Same goes for the 14 community, it has it shares of people who are toxic, you can see posts pop up every month about toxic players, whether it's too cry about something game related or to cry about SE making this game for low level pcs and ps3 support. Adding a new system of players to the game wouldn't make it more or less toxic than it already is, and by thinking they're all wholly toxic, you'd be doing nothing to build the communities up.
