We already had an event in honor of ffxi. We got some sweet armour. No need for more than that. Lets give ffxiv more ffxiv related content instead of dwelling in the past.

We've actually had two, the first one celebrated FFXI's eleventh anniversary of service and featured Shantotto and a giant simulacrum of her that you had to fight in a FATE (with a Shantotto minion as the event reward), and the second event that you're referring to was celebrating the official completion of FFXI's storyline with the Rhapsodies of Vana'diel missions, and of course featured that mission line's main character Iroha (and the FATEs that were a part of the event all had some meta in-joke or reference to FFXI).

You are totally right though, we've already had FFXI-tie-in events in FFXIV, it's time to move onto more original content.
