Why are extra characters still $3?

I really dislike the character fee. I'd like to be able to make alts in this game, but I'm certainly not going to pay a monthly fee to do it.

For now this is an annoyance, but it will be much more than that if they keep the character fee system after 2.0 hits. The dev team is creating a new world filled with new content and a new progression system. I'd like to experience all of that--the entirety of the "new" FFXIV. However, in order to do that I'll need to start a new character. At the same time, it's important that I be able to keep my current character, as he will be the one who has experienced all of the Seventh Umbral Era content.

If the character fee stays, then I probably won't end up getting to experience all of 2.0, because I don't want to trash my current character. SE, please lose the character fee when 2.0 hits. Make your money some other way!

^ This is a very compelling reason to justify having more than one character.
