Why are extra characters still $3?

well, it's official now, there will NOT be any way whatsoever for players to purchase additional retainers until 2.0 at the earliest. The only way now to to obtain additional usable inventory is to by at least doubling your subscription cost by opening another account.

By the way, when we all originally signed up to play this game, SE made it clear that each additional character would be $3 and each additional retainer would be $1. So while I understand they allowed us to play 'free' for awhile, it seems silly to whine about paying for something you always should have paid for.

Sure, I'd like the $3 per extra character to be less. but it's reasonable. I plan on paying for the 6 months in advance, to make up for cost. I've played since day one, so I don't see that changing lol. And your first character (main character w/e) is free people. You don't pay $3 extra for your main character.

And I really do wish they could give us the extra retainers for $1 (hell, I'd pay more!) but I can understand that it's not their highest priority right now. I've been working on getting rid on my 5 mules since they announced 2.0 and that p2p is coming. I'm down to 1 now, and I'm ok with that. And we might get lucky and get some sort of extra storage in our housing, that would be awesome, but I'm not depending on it.

If you don't like it, feel free to get rid of your mules. Get to work, you have a month to get it done.

I get the feeling if this game was actually good none of this would be a problem. Wish they chose a better time to put in the subs, say after the job update or something.

For now this is an annoyance, but it will be much more than that if they keep the character fee system after 2.0 hits. The dev team is creating a new world filled with new content and a new progression system. I'd like to experience all of that--the entirety of the "new" FFXIV. However, in order to do that I'll need to start a new character. At the same time, it's important that I be able to keep my current character, as he will be the one who has experienced all of the Seventh Umbral Era content.

If the character fee stays, then I probably won't end up getting to experience all of 2.0, because I don't want to trash my current character. SE, please lose the character fee when 2.0 hits. Make your money some other way!

XIV 2.0 billing plan aren't disclosed yet. Retainer pricing plan is still TBD ($1/retainer was announced, who knows what will happen with 2.0).

Maybe SE will realize that paying for more character isn't a good idea. Maybe we will have a bundle, like a special pack for 4 characters + 4 retainers for a small fee. Maybe subscribing for 180 or 365 days will grant you the right to have 2 characters for free...

At first, SE always announced a flat monthly rate. Now they finally understood that giving discounts for 90/180 days was necessary. They are making progress. Can hope that in 2013 they will get rid off that "pay per character" non sense.

I'd be just as happy if they incorporated the characters into the bulk billing discount. So that would make it pay for 6 months is $9 for an extra character rather than $18.

I have played since beta and plan to continue. I have two extra characters that I don't use but like the names and I'm not willing to give them up. I assumed at some point that I would be using them as mules. We all knew this day was coming and I for one am just glad I got a free year out of it. I'm looking forward to all the extra lore for people who stay.
