SE needs to show DoL ALOT more love in 4.0

I'm sure everyone here can sympathize. We've got 2 choices for gear: 1 requires weeks of effort and has meh stats that barely let us break into the top tier gathers. The other option is crafted: requiring millions of gil spent obtaining the gear and then melding it out. What's the problem here? There's no return on our investment. As things currently stand in the in game economy supply >>>>>>>>>>>>> demand. Anything we can gather is next to worthless. The crafts use very little gathered resources, and we have dozens of gatherers competing for that tiny market share. The result is prices so low it's not even worth going after the nodes.

This is where SE needs to step in and make DoL relevant. First off: tomestone materials and scrip materials need to go away. All 1 star and above items need to be "hidden" so that only 1 can be obtained per hour. To compensate for the significant reduction in scrips this would cause (or whatever the equivalent will be in 4.0) scrip yields from turnin of these items should be tripled. Lastly, the number of gathered items per synth should be doubled to tripled.

All of this is designed with the goal of making Supply <= Demand. Supply needs to be diminished alongside an increase in Demand to make this work. As things stand now, there's no gil significant reward for gathering, and DoL get to just standby and watch DoH rake in all the profits. These initiatives would also have the side effect of discouraging DoH from gathering their own materials, as gathering enough for a single synth would represent several trips to an hourly node as opposed to 1.

Any thoughts on this or how to improve on the idea?

If you triple the mats needed to craft something you're only going to triple the price of that crafted item...

And to be fair if you increased the costs of the mats you'd probably have the opposite effect and encourage more crafters to gather there own stuff because it's so expensive to buy... I tend to gather my own most of the time just because I need 6 teak logs and not 50 or 99..

DoL gear. yeah it takes a while to get the i200 stuff but it's got enough stats to smash every node you could ever need currently.. 657gp is more than enough for most stuff as well.

my biggest problem with DoL is food is to short a duration. 30 minutes duration on food when many of the high end nodes pop once an hour...

I think the underlying problem with the crafters and gatherers market is it's never really relevant. crafted gear is resorted to catch up gear most of the time. except a very brienf period at the start of an even patch. the 220 gear in 3.2 for example and 250 in 3.4. after the first weeks its pretty much catch up / glamor only. and that's why it doesn't sell so well. some of the 250 pieces sell like 1 a week if that... because a its expensive stuff and b it'll be replaced too quickly...

other crafted stuff like food and meds is largely useless. I think I know 1 person in a crafters ls of almost 100 that has specialied in cooking... cos no one ever uses food it's pointless.... players are i270 smashin content that's easy as pie at i230 there's no reason ever to use food or meld there gear even...

I think the only real ways you could improve the situation in any real way and increase demand Are:-
A: to actually make the crafted and gathered stuff actually relevant.... if you could buy crafted 260 or 270 gear you could safely bet the demand would be much higher. for both finished goods and gathered materials needed to make them.

    or
B: actually make gathering a bit harder than just mash button and collect items... probably find supplies would drop if gathering was a bit harder than choose item and click to gather..

in a way can see an example of this with things like aethersands that you need to use aetherial reduction to get. some of those are quite expensive because it's actually harder to gather than just whack a button..

They tried heavy gating of gathering items to increase the Supply>Demand ratio with Favors and their associated mats and crafts. It was the worst idea ever and everyone hated it. Many people quit crafting and gathering altogether because of how bad it was.

lol tell that a Fisher with full overmelded ironworks gear who has spent a countless time to level desynthesis and getting folklore books... _._

Let's all remember what happened when SE tried to make gathered mats hard/timesink-y in 3.0.
Oh right, that's it. High-level crafting DIED.

Could gathering use some changes? Sure, but making materials extremely limited isn't the way to go.

One "change" that could actually help the supply and demand issue, is for SE to actually crack down on botters. I know of a few bots on Balmung that have been botting most of the unspoiled/legendary nodes since 3.0, and they've never been banned. Those players bring a lot of supply in, with how they can gather 24/7.

I'd just wish for more engaging content, like they used to have in ARR. There was the legendary fisher quest, there was upgradable tools (supra/lucis), there was many unique items from desynthesis of fish such as exclusive summer clothing and it fetched a high market value. I feel like HW skipped having any big endgame goal for DoL by making its rarest fish have no value, not having a legendary quest and not having relic-like upgradable tools to grind out by obtaining special items. The weekly scrips and weekly custom deliveries are more on the casual side and don't plug that gap.

That's sadly a huge issue. I hate being near ephemeral nodes because you just see a bunch of bots farming them all the time. Automation really took over that part of the game.

Your post makes it sound like you want the system/classes tweaked around the in-game economy. How ridiculous is that request, given how varied the economy can be across servers et al.? Nothing should be changed just because "this doesn't make me any money so it's useless."

I agree that DoLs have gotten pretty stale and that something should be done, but I also agree that any increase in gathering efficiency will seriously mess with the game's economy in ways that are hard to predict.

To be honest, I'm mostly annoyed with the fact that we still start at 400 GP, have 5 GP ticks (though to be fair our max GP only went up by ~100 in Heavensward) and have skills that use 400-500 GP per node. Like, I can definitely understand why people buy shards from bot sellers instead of spending hours hitting level 5 nodes themselves just to get a few hundred. It's not fun, even if I think gathering can be fun in general.

But again, changing any of this would upset the economy so it's not an easy fix.

Regardless, something needs to be done. It's not a selfish request. DoL put a lot of work into their jobs. If they want to be at the very top of their game they also have to spend massive amounts of gil penta melding gear. There's no return on that investment....it can take months of dedicated gathering just to BREAK EVEN. The idea that gathering is too easy is certainly what I was aiming at for reducing the amount of materials you can get. There are other changes that need to be made on the crafting side, which is a given, especially in relation to relevant gear, but that's a topic better suited to the DoH boards. All I really want to see is a reason to gather besides playing a gatherer, because we don't see any return or benefit to playing these jobs as they stand now.

Also, I generally don't like to point fingers...but Hasrat, you don't have a single job above level 50. As such, you have no idea what HW gatherers had to go through to get to the top tier. Maybe you should limit your comments to threads which you actually know something about and quit trying to flame people who have a legitimate complaint and are trying to find reasonable accommodations to improve their situation.

To be fair, this is part of what I want to see discouraged. What reason do you have to buy materials from a dedicated gatherer when you can just level up a gatherer, hit the node once, and have all the mats you need? On the flip side, if you are a crafter and are looking to buy your mats of the market board: you need 6 but all you can find are stacks of 99. It's silly to require you to buy 99 when you only need 6. Greatly limiting supply should fix this. I want it to take enough effort to get those 6 logs that as a crafter you don't really want to spend 6 hours getting them, but at the same time I think you should be able to go to the market board and just buy the 6 you need.
