As I wrote in another forum voicing more or less the same problems, other than being a business strategy, as they already said before release in many interviews, the 3$/€/£ of the characters is there because they want to promote a sort of social projection of the player in the character.

A 'persona' of sort (psychologically speaking); that way, the player develops and builds a sort of permanent reputation in the world (and we all know that a bad reputation is hard to reset), trying at the same time to diminish the bad behaviour many players tend to have just because 'it's a game, so there are not any problems with how I behave'... and being the price of a single character so high, it'd not be so common for someone to just buy another character (or wipe out the progress with the one someone already has) just to start with a blank reputation.

That way, someone will try to act the best they can, because, let's face it, no one wants to be the black sheep in a community... any kind of community

Other than that, you don't even have the 'mule' fact, because we have retainers, and they cost 1$/€/£ each.

And of course, we don't really know how many variables a single character has to store, given the amount of jobs/skills and whatnot (Skyrim comes to mind.. each save is roughly 5MB in size... ok, they're different games altogether but try to get to my point here).

Of course, everything in here is my 2cents on the matter. I'll gladly pay for the service, I just hope patch 1.20 will be delivered soon, the wait is killing me.

    Edited for better formatting <_<
